K\u00f6nnen sich Elektronen wie eine perfekte, reibungslose Fl\u00fcssigkeit verhalten, wie es die universelle Quantenkonstante beschreibt? Aufgrund von Unvollkommenheiten und Verunreinigungen in Materialien war dies bisher \u00e4u\u00dferst schwierig nachzuweisen.<br><br>Forscher des Indian Institute of Science (IISc) haben in Zusammenarbeit mit dem japanischen National Institute for Materials Science nun diese Quantenelektronenfl\u00fcssigkeit in Graphen, einem einschichtigen Kohlenstoffmaterial, nachgewiesen. Ihre in Nature Physics ver\u00f6ffentlichten Ergebnisse \u00f6ffnen neue T\u00fcren zur Quantenwelt und best\u00e4tigen Graphen als ideale Plattform f\u00fcr die Erforschung seltener Quantenph\u00e4nomene. \u201eEs ist erstaunlich, wie viele Geheimnisse eine einzelne Graphenschicht selbst nach 20 Jahren noch birgt\u201c, sagt Professor Arindam Ghosh vom IISc.<br><br>Das Team stellte extrem reine Graphenproben her und beobachtete, wie diese gleichzeitig Strom und W\u00e4rme leiteten. \u00dcberraschenderweise fanden sie die umgekehrte Beziehung: Eine h\u00f6here elektrische Leitf\u00e4higkeit bedeutete eine geringere W\u00e4rmeleitf\u00e4higkeit. Bei niedrigen Temperaturen stellten sie eine mehr als 200-fache Abweichung vom Gesetz fest, was auf getrennte Mechanismen f\u00fcr W\u00e4rme- und Ladungstransport hindeutet. Beide basieren auf einer universellen Konstante, der Quantenleitf\u00e4higkeit.<br><br>Dieses Ph\u00e4nomen tritt am \u201eDirac-Punkt\u201c auf, wo Graphen weder metallisch noch isolierend ist. Dort bewegen sich Elektronen wie eine Fl\u00fcssigkeit \u2013 \u00e4hnlich wie Wasser, aber hundertmal weniger viskos. Dieser Zustand, die sogenannte Dirac-Fl\u00fcssigkeit, erinnert an das am CERN beobachtete Quark-Gluon-Plasma.<br><br>Graphen erweist sich somit als kosteng\u00fcnstige Plattform f\u00fcr die Simulation von Hochenergiephysik und Astrophysik. Die Dirac-Fl\u00fcssigkeit verspricht zudem Fortschritte bei Quantensensoren zur Detektion extrem schwacher Signale.
