Mithilfe von Quantenmaterialien konnten sie erstmals experimentell die Erzeugung hoher Harmonischer (HHG) im Terahertz-Bereich (THz) nachweisen, einschlie\u00dflich gerader Frequenzen. Dies war aufgrund der Symmetrie der meisten Materialien zuvor unm\u00f6glich.<br><br>Die Erzeugung hoher Harmonischer (HHG) erm\u00f6glicht die Umwandlung von Licht in h\u00f6here Frequenzen und er\u00f6ffnet damit den Zugang zu bisher unzug\u00e4nglichen Bereichen des elektromagnetischen Spektrums. Graphen gilt seit Langem als vielversprechender Kandidat, erzeugt aber aufgrund seiner perfekten Symmetrie nur ungerade Harmonische.<br><br>In der in Light: Science &amp; Applications ver\u00f6ffentlichten Studie nutzte ein Team unter der Leitung von Prof. Miriam Serena Vitiello topologische Isolatoren (TIs), Materialien, die an der Oberfl\u00e4che Strom leiten, im Inneren jedoch isolierend wirken. Aufgrund starker Spin-Bahn-Kopplung und Zeitumkehrsymmetrie weisen sie einzigartige Quanteneigenschaften auf.<br><br>Die Forscher nutzten Split-Ring-Resonator-Nanostrukturen (SRR) und kombinierten diese mit d\u00fcnnen Bi\u2082Se\u2083-Schichten und (In\u2093Bi\u2081\u208b\u2093)\u2082Se\u2083-Heterostrukturen. Mithilfe eines 2,5 W THz-Quantenkaskadenlasers erreichten sie eine Lichtverst\u00e4rkung und beobachteten die Erzeugung hoher Frequenzen (HHG) bei 6,4 THz (gerade Frequenz) und 9,7 THz (ungerade Frequenz).<br><br>Die Ergebnisse best\u00e4tigen theoretische Vorhersagen und erm\u00f6glichen die Entwicklung kompakter Terahertz-Lichtquellen, Sensoren und ultraschneller optoelektronischer Bauelemente. Die Fortschritte verdeutlichen das gro\u00dfe Potenzial von Quantenmaterialien f\u00fcr zuk\u00fcnftige Technologien.
