Diese Maschinen sind kleiner als ein Salzkorn und arbeiten auf der Ebene biologischer Mikroorganismen. Dies er\u00f6ffnet v\u00f6llig neue M\u00f6glichkeiten in Medizin und Industrie.<br><br>Auf mikroskopischer Ebene wirken physikalische Kr\u00e4fte wie Str\u00f6mungswiderstand und Viskosit\u00e4t extrem stark. Anstelle herk\u00f6mmlicher Beine oder Flossen nutzen diese Roboter elektrische Felder, um Ionen in der umgebenden Fl\u00fcssigkeit zu manipulieren. Die Ionen schieben dann Wassermolek\u00fcle weg, wodurch der Roboter mit einer Geschwindigkeit von einer K\u00f6rperl\u00e4nge pro Sekunde schwimmen kann. Da das System keine beweglichen Teile besitzt, sind die Roboter extrem robust.<br><br>Die gr\u00f6\u00dfte Herausforderung bestand darin, Prozessor, Speicher, Sensoren und Solarzellen auf so kleinem Raum unterzubringen. Die Solarzellen bedecken fast den gesamten Roboter, erzeugen aber nur 75 Nanowatt Leistung \u2013 das ist mehr als 100.000 Mal weniger als eine Smartwatch verbraucht. Um den Betrieb der Roboter mit so wenig Energie zu erm\u00f6glichen, wurden hocheffiziente Schaltkreise entwickelt, die den Verbrauch um mehr als das Tausendfache reduzieren.<br><br>Die Roboter sind mit Sensoren ausgestattet, die die Temperatur mit einer Genauigkeit von bis zu 0,33 \u00b0C messen. Sie \u00fcbermitteln ihre Ergebnisse auf einzigartige Weise: durch kleine, rhythmische Bewegungen oder \u201eT\u00e4nze\u201c, die Forscher unter einem Mikroskop beobachten und anschlie\u00dfend entschl\u00fcsseln.
