Bei Temperaturen \u00fcber 200 Grad Celsius versagen die meisten heutigen Ger\u00e4te. Ein Team um Professor Joshua Yang von der University of Southern California (USC) hat nun eine Technologie entwickelt, die diese thermische Grenze vollst\u00e4ndig \u00fcberwindet. Ihr neuer Speicherchip, ein sogenannter Memristor, funktioniert problemlos bei unglaublichen 700 \u00b0C \u2013 einer Temperatur, die sogar die von geschmolzenem Magma \u00fcbersteigt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Forscher haben einen speziellen Mechanismus auf atomarer Ebene entdeckt, der verhindert, dass Bauteile durch Hitze ausfallen. Der Schl\u00fcssel zum Erfolg liegt in der Verwendung von Wolfram, dem Element mit dem h\u00f6chsten Schmelzpunkt, und Graphen, das f\u00fcr seine au\u00dfergew\u00f6hnliche Festigkeit und Hitzebest\u00e4ndigkeit bekannt ist. Dank dieser Materialkombination konnte das Ger\u00e4t Daten \u00fcber 50 Stunden lang bei 700 Grad Celsius speichern, ohne dass eine Aktualisierung erforderlich war. Interessanterweise war diese Temperatur die Messgrenze der Ger\u00e4te der Forscher, sodass sie vermuten, dass der Chip sogar noch h\u00f6heren Belastungen standhalten k\u00f6nnte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Warum ist das wichtig? Elektronik, die bei Temperaturen \u00fcber 500 Grad Celsius funktioniert, ist seit Langem ein Ziel der Weltraumforschung. Die Oberfl\u00e4che der Venus beispielsweise weist Temperaturen um diesen Wert auf, was zum schnellen Scheitern aller bisherigen Landeger\u00e4te f\u00fchrte. Die neuen Chips w\u00fcrden Langzeitmissionen zu anderen Planeten erm\u00f6glichen. Neben dem Weltraum gibt es auch geothermische Energiesysteme tief unter der Erde, wo Gestein rot gl\u00fcht, sowie Kern- und Fusionssysteme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neben seiner Robustheit bietet der neue Chip einen enormen Vorteil f\u00fcr k\u00fcnstliche Intelligenz (KI). Die meisten KI-Systeme basieren auf Matrixmultiplikation, einer Operation, die f\u00fcr Bilderkennung und Sprachverarbeitung eingesetzt wird. Die neue Hochtemperaturversion erm\u00f6glicht es Raumfahrzeugen oder industriellen Sensoren, diese komplexen Daten direkt vor Ort zu verarbeiten, anstatt sie an entfernte, k\u00fchlere Rechenzentren zu senden. Dies reduziert den Stromverbrauch und die Verz\u00f6gerung drastisch.
