Deloitte is building a chatbot UI for its 75,000 employees in Europe and the Middle East to create Power Point presentations, write emails and code. Main goal? Increase employee productivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The \u201cBig Four\u201d accounting and consulting firm first launched an internal tool called \u201cPairD\u201d in the UK in October, another sign that consulting firms and professional services firms in general are rushing to adopt artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Employees were warned that the technology is still in development and that the new tool may give inaccurate information about people, places and facts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Users were told to conduct their own careful verification and quality assurance to confirm the \u201caccuracy\u201d of the chatbot\u2019s results before using it for work, a person familiar with the matter told the Financial Times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Unlike competing companies that have tied up with big players in the market such as ChatGPT, OpenAI and Harvey, Deloitte's AI chatbot was developed by an in-house AI institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The introduction of a tool like \u201cPairD\u201d shows how the professional services industry is increasingly using generative artificial intelligence to automate tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Competitor PwC, another member of the \u201cBig Four,\u201d is using AI chatbots in its legal and tax departments to speed up its employees\u2019 work by summarizing voluminous documents and identifying compliance issues. Law firm Allen & Overy has also created an AI-powered contract negotiation tool that drafts new contracts that lawyers can then modify or use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Deloitte said its \u201cPairD\u201d tool can be used by employees to respond to emails, prepare written content, write code to automate tasks, create presentations, conduct research, and design meeting agendas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The AI rollout comes as firms like Deloitte are looking to cut costs amid slowing demand for some of their services. The \u201cBig Four\u201d \u2013 Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PwC \u2013 have announced layoff programs in recent months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Costi Perricos, head of generative AI at Deloitte, said that the launch of the \u201cPairD\u201d bot is part of their long-term investment plans in AI as they continue to explore the possibilities this technology can offer the company, clients and society at large.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
