Who doesn't remember the iconic car from the Back to the Future movies? Electrogenic has revealed a plug-and-play conversion package for the DeLorean DMC-12 that swaps out the V6 engine, which isn't exactly popular with its fans, and replaces it with an electric one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The English company is known for conversions. In the past they have converted Citroen DS, Land Rover Defender, Jaguar E-Type and more. Remaking a film legend is quite a bold venture, but they clearly hit the nail on the head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The owner can remove the conversion at any time, although the company says no one will want to once they've experienced the raw power and performance of the electric drivetrain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The powertrain was designed to retain the vehicle's original structure, with the 43-kWh OEM-grade battery mounted in place of the fuel tank and the electric motor integrated into the rear axle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The engine produces 217 horsepower and a good 300 Nm of torque via a fixed-ratio transmission, which halves the time it takes to accelerate from 0 to 60 km\/h (5.0 seconds) compared to the original car. It is also the first Electrogenic model to be equipped with launch control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The mentioned solution can be installed in the original DMC-12 cars with manual or automatic transmission, while the weight of the original car increases by only 40 kilograms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The legendary DMC-12's battery provides 150 kilometers of range, and it is also charged with regenerative brakes that adjust according to one of two driving modes, Eco and Sport, with the latter sharpening throttle response and increasing the sporty feel of the ride. Charging speed is not specified, but the battery should be charged in less than an hour on the CSS fast charger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
