The new electric truck FH Electric can travel 600 km on a single charge. For comparison, the current model covers 300 km. After the release of the new one, the existing one will in all probability remain in the offer for a certain period of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The greater range is due to the new technological design of the e-axle drivetrain, "where the electric motors and gearbox are integrated into the rear axle, which allows room for more batteries," says company representative Helena Lind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Volvo will announce final battery capacity closer to launch, but the FH Electric will have eight batteries compared to six in the current model. "For many customers this is quite sufficient, but for inter-regional or long-haul haulage, the new truck will be excellent," says Lind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Volvo has eight electric trucks in its range and has delivered more than 3,800 trucks to customers in 47 countries as of 2019. The car manufacturer has set a goal for 2040 to achieve net zero emissions in its line. A few months ago, they also sold 50 electric trucks to Amazon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to Volvo, other automakers such as Tesla and Daimler are also testing their long-distance electric trucks in hopes of electrifying this segment. When Tesla announced the Tesla Semi in 2017, it seemed like it was going to take the lead in this segment, but they haven't shown anything big since then, and recently their truck caught fire in an accident in California.
