The textile industry is facing a major technological upheaval. Chinese industrial sewing machine manufacturer Jack Technology has teamed up with German giant Siemens to integrate artificial intelligence, digital engineering and advanced robotics into garment production. The move aims to address the growing pressures of rising costs, shorten delivery times and respond more quickly to customer demands for customized clothing. The ultimate goal of the initiative is to increase production efficiency by at least 30 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The large-scale order for 2,000 humanoid robots represents one of the first such large-scale automation projects in the textile sector. Unlike classic industrial robots, which are fixed in one place, humanoid robots move in a similar way to humans. This allows them to fit directly into existing workstations without the need for costly space conversions. They also offer a flexible solution to labor shortages and enable safe collaboration with human workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The concept was validated in a recent two-week test at Siemens\u2019 electronics factory in Erlangen, Germany. The test involved a wheeled humanoid robot, the HMND 01, from the British company Neura Robotics, based on NVIDIA\u2019s physical AI platform. The robot moved crates onto a conveyor belt completely autonomously and then delivered them to workers. In one day, it worked for more than eight hours without manual intervention, handling 60 crates per hour (of two different sizes) and achieving a gripping success rate of more than 90%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to humanoid robots, four-legged robots are also rapidly entering the industry. They are intended for inspection and maintenance of facilities where conditions are dangerous for people, such as high temperatures, fire risks or the presence of chemicals. An example is the ANYmal robot from ANYbotics. Using Siemens solutions and the Roboverse Reply platform, this robotic dog autonomously collects data, measures the temperature of engines with infrared cameras and uses acoustic sensors to detect gas leaks within frequencies that the human ear cannot hear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Of course, the successful deployment of thousands of robots requires more than just advanced hardware. Comprehensive integration with existing machines, autonomous vehicles and human teams will be key.
