Samsung, where is the local dimming? Where are the zones that adjust the brightness themselves? Instead, the entire panel dims at once, which will be a big &quot;handicap&quot; even before the test begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Otherwise, it&#039;s a lot of good stuff on paper. The frame is very thin, the bottom edge is clean, and the 55-inch black rectangular surface does not draw attention to itself on furniture. Samsung calls it Metal Stream. The materials on the back quickly give away that I am not in the class of more expensive TVs (for example, Neo QLED), but that does not bother me. I do not buy a TV for its design, but for its ability to display a good picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What bothers me more than the shape is the placement of the ports. The two HDMI inputs and Ethernet face the back, so the Samsung M80H isn&#039;t an ideal candidate for those extremely thin wall mounts where the TV almost kisses the wall. Only three HDMI ports may be a limitation, but Samsung has at least made all three accept 4K at 144 Hz. If I have a PS5, Xbox, gaming PC, and soundbar via eARC, I&#039;m already one port down. Even a single USB is a pretty stingy decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Test-Samsung-M80H-Mini-LED-review-25-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2705781\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Samsung calls it Mini LED. I have a hard time agreeing with them<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I don&#039;t have specialized equipment to determine how many dimming zones a TV has. But you can see with the naked eye that this TV doesn&#039;t behave the same as a classic Mini-LED. Start any movie, fast forward to the first dark scene with bright elements. If you had an OLED TV, it would turn individual pixels on or off. For example, if you had a light in the scene, the pixels around it would remain lit, and all the others would be dimmed. A classic Mini-LED would light up the zone (area) around the light, and dim all nearby areas. The Samsung M80H adjusts the brightness globally. If it detects a very dark scene, it can reduce it across the entire screen. When something bright comes on, it has to make a compromise. This has some bad and some good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the one hand, I don&#039;t have the classic Mini LED bloom around the white subtitles. There&#039;s no area of illumination that lights up behind the subtitles and leaves a grayish cloud behind it. The default contrast is around 5000:1, which is not bad for a VA panel without local dimming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If I look at a normal darker frame, where there is no extreme combination of small bright elements and blackness, the Samsung M80H does not look cheap. The black surfaces have enough depth, the image has volume, the face in the darker space does not float on the milky gray background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then you come across more complex scenes, more than the usual ones that the Samsung M80H can display well. A night street with bright car headlights. A white moon in a black sky. The TV suddenly has to make a choice. If it keeps the brightness higher, the black becomes grayer. If it lowers the brightness with global dimming, the background becomes more beautiful, but at the same time the bright object loses some of its intensity. With a real Mini LED with hundreds of zones, this compromise would not have to be made to such an extent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-2 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Test-Samsung-M80H-Mini-LED-review-11-scaled.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"2705771\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Test-Samsung-M80H-Mini-LED-review-11-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2705771\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Test-Samsung-M80H-Mini-LED-review-15-scaled.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"2705773\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Test-Samsung-M80H-Mini-LED-review-15-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2705773\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>During the day, in moderate light, the contrast is better than at night<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the day or in moderate ambient light, its contrast is much more convincing. The small amount of light in the room helps our eyes perceive blacks on an LCD as deeper. When I completely darkened the room, it was easier to see that the panel was still emitting light even where I wanted complete darkness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Luminosity should be an asset for Mini-LED<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">350 nits or candelas is a very average number. I know we are in the lower range of TVs, but I still expected more. The HDR picture is not exactly a lost cause. The colors are okay, but the spectacle that I am now used to is missing. If I have the sun between the clouds on the screen, I would like it to be significantly brighter than the rest of the picture. In an explosion, the fire should almost cut into the eyes for a moment. In short, HDR brightness is more similar to SDR brightness on a good TV. It is a pity that Samsung still does not support Dolby Vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Colors are an area where the M80H doesn&#039;t perform like a cheap LCD<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If it quickly runs out of steam in terms of brightness, it has much more energy in terms of colors. Samsung uses a PFS lighting system, or a filter for a wider color gamut. The purpose is similar to quantum dots. To get cleaner and more saturated primary colors than with a basic white LED LCD. This is especially visible in green, blue and more intense red tones. The Samsung M80H is able to show a nice vibrant image without having to immediately jump into grotesque oversaturation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Colour Booster Pro or similar features have an effect at first glance. The grass is greener, the sky is bluer, the face gets more warmth. But after ten minutes you start to notice that it all becomes a bit too much. For a movie I would choose <strong>Filmmaker Mode<\/strong> and then tweaked just a few basic settings as needed. For everyday TV, Standard doesn&#039;t bother me. It&#039;s a bit more vibrant, but in daylight this often works well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-3 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Test-Samsung-M80H-Mini-LED-review-17-scaled.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"2705775\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Test-Samsung-M80H-Mini-LED-review-17-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2705775\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Test-Samsung-M80H-Mini-LED-review-20-scaled.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"2705777\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Test-Samsung-M80H-Mini-LED-review-20-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2705777\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Test-Samsung-M80H-Mini-LED-review-21-scaled.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"2705779\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Test-Samsung-M80H-Mini-LED-review-21-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2705779\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The processor is better than the panel<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The NQ4 AI Gen2 uses 20 neural networks to process images and sound. I saw the most benefit with content that actually gives the TV some work. A good 4K Blu-ray doesn&#039;t need to be resolved. Even a high-quality Netflix 4K signal comes through clean enough. A sports channel in 1080p? An older series? YouTube with too low a bitrate? That&#039;s where the processor is more important. With a well-preserved Full HD source, the Samsung M80H cleans up the edges nicely, reduces the feeling of a soft image, and maps it to a 4K panel without immediately starting to draw artificial details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>144 Hz is more than enough for gamers<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All three HDMI inputs accept 4K at 144Hz, I get VRR, ALLM, AMD FreeSync Premium, HGiG, Game Motion Plus, ultrawide aspect ratios, and Samsung&#039;s Game Bar. The latter is useful for quick information. I don&#039;t have to dig through three levels of menus to check if VRR is actually working, how many Hz I&#039;m currently getting, or which game mode is active. Everything important is in one place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you&#039;re ready to play in FullHD, you can increase the refresh rate to 240 Hz. Of course, on a 55-inch diagonal, 1920 \u00d7 1080 is not exactly a model of sharpness. Sitting close and watching your desktop in Full HD is not a fun idea. Of course, this only comes into play if you really need the extra responsiveness in Counter Strike, Apex Legends, Valorant and the like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I didn&#039;t notice any serious blurring during fast movements. There is some, but nothing critical. The latency is not the lowest, but it is still below the limit where you won&#039;t notice the consequences. The average delay is around 10 ms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Tizen is full of everything, it just doesn&#039;t have those niche apps that I use<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tizen&#039;s One UI is very fast. Apps open quickly, navigation is fluid, and the selection of streaming services is so wide that I probably won&#039;t need an external player for the sake of missing an app. That&#039;s what I would say if I were a regular user. Unfortunately, the selection is too narrow for me. Plex is available, but I use Jellyfin. I also couldn&#039;t find an option to load my own launcher (like Projectivy). I also like to use the Moonlight streaming service, which allows me to cast the image from my computer to the TV downstairs. I miss the freedom for a more advanced user. Two channels, a total of 20 W. Samsung adds OTS Lite, Adaptive Sound+, Active Voice Amplifier and Q-Symphony. OTS Lite uses processing to spatially link the sound to what&#039;s happening on the screen. Adaptive Sound adjusts the sound balance to the content and space, and Active Voice Amplifier helps when there&#039;s noise around me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The dialogue is good. That&#039;s very important to me in a TV. I don&#039;t have to turn up the volume for every quiet conversation and then panic and turn it down at the first explosion. The midrange isn&#039;t completely empty either. The bass is completely lacking. A soundbar is almost a must.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>I see it more as a gaming TV than a movie TV<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;If I&#039;m buying it expecting the blacks and HDR effect of a good Neo QLED, I&#039;ll be disappointed.
