The TV has a permanent place in my living room. The projector, however, has much more freedom. Today I can put it on the nightstand, tomorrow on the table on the terrace, next time maybe even on the floor and direct the image towards the ceiling. At least that is the idea of the Wanbo ToGo Pro projector, which has everything you need to play movies already built into a relatively compact housing. Including a battery, which is a welcome feature in this price range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I placed the projector in front of a white wall (about 10 feet away) and produced an image that I estimated was at least 75 inches. No projection screen, additional player, or complicated setup. Moments later, I was browsing content on Google TV. That\u2019s about as easy as any portable projector should be to use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Wanbo ToGo Pro does have some very obvious limitations, the biggest of which is the brightness, which means you'll need to darken the room to get a decent picture. But I liked the combination of autofocus, a rotating stand, and surprisingly good battery life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I like that the projector adapts to me and not the other way around<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

What always bothered me about projectors is that sometimes you have to spend more time finding a suitable setup than choosing a film. If the projector doesn't have a good stand, you find a suitable shelf, put books under it and hope that the image ends up being at least roughly where you want it. I didn't have these problems with the Wanbo ToGo Pro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The housing is shaped like a small upright cylinder with a slightly more angular exterior. There is a convenient carrying handle on the top, and a rotating stand underneath that allows the projector to be rotated 360 degrees. I can place the projector on a table and point it straight at the wall. If the table is a little too low, I can simply adjust the angle. If I don't have space directly in front of the projection surface, I move it a little to the side and let the electronics do the rest of the work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The swivel stand also supports ceiling projection, although it's out of the question for me because where I could theoretically create a comfortable reclining corner, I have recessed lights on the ceiling that would spoil the image. Wanbo also earned a Red Dot Design Award 2026 for its design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 2.6 kilograms, the projector is not exactly feather-light, but I can easily carry it with one hand. It is compact enough that I can put it in a closet when I don't need it and put it on my nightstand or take it to the terrace the next time. You can also take it camping, because it takes up almost no space in your car, and you can even put it under the seat with ease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The front houses the projection lens and sensors for automatic image adjustment. The rear houses the connectors and cooling vents. The optical assembly is sealed, which is supposed to reduce dust accumulation on the sensitive internal components.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

500 ANSI lumens \u2013 curtains will be your best friend<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Let's get the most important limitation of the Wanbo ToGo Pro straight away. Its 500 ANSI lumens are not enough for comfortable viewing in a bright room. I tried it. I left some daylight in the room during the day, and later I tested it with the light on. In both cases, the image quality dropped significantly. Colors became paler, contrast lost depth, and darker scenes were much less convincing. I do not recommend such use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

500 ANSI lumens is a decent figure for this class of portable projector, but it's still not enough to stand up to light. The projector doesn't create black like a TV. It sends light onto the projection surface, so the darkest part of the image depends largely on how dark the surface is or how much light is already present in the room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the sun shines through the window, the blackness turns to gray. When you turn on the light, the details and color depth begin to disappear. But when I darkened the children's room, the projector was forgiven a lot. The picture became much more pleasant, the colors took on more life, and most importantly, I was able to focus on the content instead of the projector's shortcomings. With such a large display, the sheer size of the image creates a feeling that a smaller TV has difficulty conjuring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diagonal is also important. The larger the image we create, the more surface area we spread the available light over. A 100- or 120-inch projection is attractive on paper, but it's not necessarily the best fit for a 500 ANSI lumen projector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I would rather choose a slightly smaller, brighter, and higher contrast image than chase the largest diagonal at all costs. So if you're thinking about buying one, don't be fooled by promotional photos of a family in the garden on a sunny afternoon looking at a perfectly bright and vibrant image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For such an experience, you will need a much more powerful projector. The Wanbo ToGo Pro is primarily a device for evenings, nights, and well-darkened spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Full HD is enough, but the contrast remains average<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Wanbo ToGo Pro uses LCD projection technology with a default resolution of 1920\u00d71080 pixels. This means it displays a Full HD image. I mention this because some affordable projectors advertise 4K support, even though the physical resolution of their panel is much lower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wanbo can also play certain higher resolution content, but it still displays it in Full HD in the end. So if you see the 4K label in the app settings or among the supported formats, this does not mean that you have a true 4K projector in front of you. For me, Full HD is more than enough for such a device. I projected onto a white wall in my child's room and, in my opinion, created at least a 75-inch image. Once the autofocus did its job, the image was sharp enough that I had no particular complaints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Details were clearly visible, subtitles were readable, and the image was clear enough that I didn't have to worry about resolution. I occasionally noticed a slight loss of sharpness at the edges. It wasn't anything dramatic, but there was a difference when you looked closely. Especially when displaying text or static UI elements. I barely noticed it while watching the movie. When the action starts, your eyes are much faster at following the action than searching for less sharp pixels at the far edge of the image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are more compromises in contrast. The number 2500:1 by itself does not say much about the actual depth of black. While watching, I noticed that the black was never truly black. Even in a darkened room, it remains a bit grayish. Darker scenes therefore do not have the depth that we are used to in good OLED TVs. Individual shadows can blend a bit, and the picture appears flatter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But honestly, I didn't expect this from a projector for around \u20ac300. If you're not overly demanding about perfect blacks and flawless contrast, you'll still be able to watch a movie or series with satisfaction. I was pleased with the image quality myself, especially considering the price and purpose of the device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Autofocus and alignment are worth more than a few extra features<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I really liked the automation of the Wanbo ToGo Pro. The projector uses the ASA 3.0 system, which combines autofocus, keystone correction, and image alignment. When the device is moved, the system detects the change and re-adjusts the projection. If I moved the projector a little, the focus was quickly activated and the image was correctly adjusted again. The same applies to geometric alignment. In most cases, I didn't have to do anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I only had to manually correct one of the angles once because it felt like it was a few degrees off from ideal. This is a great result for a portable projector like this. I also like that the projector doesn't have to be placed directly in front of the center of the wall. I had no problem pointing it slightly off to the side, and the automatic correction adjusted the image to a rectangle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, this technology also has its limitations. Keystone correction is digital. This means that the device reshapes the image software, which can slightly reduce the actual usable panel area and the sharpness of individual parts of the image. The more we exaggerate the angle, the more compromises we must expect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Therefore, I would recommend placing the Wanbo ToGo Pro as directly as possible towards the projection surface when possible. However, if that is not possible, I think its automatic correction is good enough that you won't lose your temper due to a slightly tilted position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The built-in battery pleasantly surprised me<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The battery is not something I often see in projectors. I believe that many people have now formulated scenarios in their heads for using a projector that has a built-in battery. The capacity is 99 Wh, which in my case was enough to watch Spirited Away to the end (1 hour and 50 minutes) at default settings. If I turned on the energy saving mode (lower brightness), I could get an additional hour of operation, so three hours in total, which I think is quite sufficient for almost any movie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I want to watch a longer movie or several episodes of a series in a row, I can still plug it in. The battery charges in about two hours, and the projector can be used while charging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Google TV is a sensible choice and familiar to everyone<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Wanbo ToGo Pro uses Google TV, which is based on Android 14. This means access to the Google app store, a familiar user interface, and a lot of freedom in choosing content. In the past, I've come across operating systems on some cheaper projectors that offered Netflix and YouTube, but everything else was much more complicated. An example is HONOR Choice Air Pro<\/a>, where the limited selection of apps really bothered me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During testing, I used Stremio, Jellyfin, and YouTube. All three apps worked without any problems, both during installation and during playback. This is important to me, especially since I also use my own archive of movies and series. I don't want to be limited to just a few of the biggest streaming providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jellyfin gives me access to content on my home server, while Stremio offers a different way to organize and play content. It's nice that I can use both apps directly on the projector, without an additional TV dongle or computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The system's responsiveness was good. I won't claim that the Google TV flies through menus like the most powerful phone. It occasionally feels like it's a more affordable device. But during use, I didn't encounter any annoying lag or issues that required me to restart apps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The projector also supports Google Cast, which means you can play content from compatible apps on your phone directly on the projector. The remote control supports voice search via the Google Assistant. There are 2.4 and 5 GHz wireless bands for connecting to the internet, and Bluetooth 5.0 for audio devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The speaker is good enough to hear the movie. But for something more...<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Wanbo ToGo Pro has a built-in 8-W speaker. And how does it perform? About as well as I would expect from a compact projector. The sound is usable, dialogue can be followed normally, and for a short YouTube video, I don't see a particular need for an additional speaker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I would like more from the movie, though. Above all, it lacks depth. Explosions don't have the right impact, the music sounds a bit modest, and the overall soundstage is quite limited. Eight watts can't do wonders, especially when we want to fill a slightly larger space with sound. That's why I connected an external speaker, which I think is the most sensible solution. The difference when watching movies is quite welcome. Bluetooth is available, so we can connect a wireless speaker or headphones. We can also use the 3.5 mm audio output.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What about the fan? The noise is around 30 dB, which isn't much unless the projector is close to you and there isn't a lot of sound coming from the movie or series at that moment. Then you'll hear it, otherwise you won't.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the back we find HDMI, USB and a 3.5mm audio jack. HDMI allows connection to a computer, game console or external player. USB can be used to access local media files, if we have the appropriate application installed to play them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wanbo ToGo Pro \u2013 a cute projector that quickly finds its place<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Wanbo ToGo Pro didn't convince me with a perfect picture, because it doesn't have one. Blacks are more gray than black, contrast is average, and in daylight the limitations of 500 ANSI lumens quickly become apparent. But it has something that I often miss in such devices - a very well-thought-out user experience. The autofocus and alignment work reliably, Google TV allows me to use the apps I want, and the battery lasts long enough to watch a movie without having to look for an outlet. The rotating stand is also not just an addition, but something I appreciated while using it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Would I use it every day? Probably not. But I'd be happy to have it on hand for a few family movie nights a month. For about \u20ac295, I get a device that I can simply grab by the handle, carry to another room, and create my own little cinema in a matter of moments.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
