El r\u00e9cord fue establecido el a\u00f1o pasado por investigadores del Instituto Nacional de Tecnolog\u00edas de la Informaci\u00f3n y las Comunicaciones (NICT) de Jap\u00f3n. Hace menos de un mes, lograron superar su ya impresionante r\u00e9cord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El equipo NICT, en colaboraci\u00f3n con Sumitomo Electric Industries, logr\u00f3 transmitir la incre\u00edble cifra de 8.160.000 gigabits (1,02 millones de gigabytes por segundo, o 8.160 terabits por segundo) a una distancia de 1.808 kil\u00f3metros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Esta es la primera transmisi\u00f3n exitosa a velocidades superiores a 1 petabit por segundo a una distancia de m\u00e1s de 1000 km utilizando fibras \u00f3pticas con un di\u00e1metro de revestimiento est\u00e1ndar (0,125 mm), como el que se utiliza actualmente. Este logro abre nuevas posibilidades para las futuras comunicaciones \u00f3pticas de alto rendimiento a larga distancia, algo crucial en un momento de r\u00e1pida expansi\u00f3n de las necesidades globales de transmisi\u00f3n de datos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Utilizaron fibras \u00f3pticas especiales de 19 n\u00facleos que act\u00faan como una autopista con 19 carriles para datos. Cada n\u00facleo transmite datos de forma independiente, lo que aumenta significativamente el rendimiento sin necesidad de modificar el di\u00e1metro de la fibra. Para amplificar las se\u00f1ales, se utilizaron amplificadores \u00f3pticos avanzados que operaban simult\u00e1neamente en todos los n\u00facleos y en dos bandas de frecuencia (banda C y banda L).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Todo el sistema incluy\u00f3 19 bucles circulares de transmisi\u00f3n, a trav\u00e9s de los cuales los datos viajaron 21 veces a lo largo de un circuito de 86,1 kil\u00f3metros, simulando largas distancias y alcanzando un total de 1.808 km, aproximadamente la distancia de Liubliana a N\u00e1poles y viceversa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aunque se han alcanzado velocidades de petabits por segundo, estas se han limitado principalmente a distancias cortas. El \u00e9xito de NICT radica en que, al reducir las p\u00e9rdidas y amplificar con precisi\u00f3n las se\u00f1ales, lograron mantener altas velocidades a lo largo de casi 2000 km. El resultado final fue un producto r\u00e9cord de capacidad y distancia: 1,86 exabits por segundo-kil\u00f3metro, la mayor cantidad jam\u00e1s alcanzada con fibra de ancho est\u00e1ndar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La parte receptora del sistema constaba de un receptor de 19 canales con un procesador MIMO, que eliminaba continuamente las interferencias mutuas entre los n\u00facleos y calculaba la velocidad de transmisi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Este logro allana el camino para la modernizaci\u00f3n de las redes \u00f3pticas globales existentes sin reemplazar la infraestructura. Anteriormente, las fibras de 19 n\u00facleos solo pod\u00edan transportar datos a distancias inferiores a 100 km.
