Un equipo de Stanford ha descubierto una forma de llevar al hierro a un estado energ\u00e9tico nunca antes observado. Este avance podr\u00eda revolucionar el futuro de las bater\u00edas de iones de litio y otras tecnolog\u00edas energ\u00e9ticas.<br><br>La investigaci\u00f3n demuestra que el hierro puede ceder y reabsorber hasta cinco electrones, frente a los dos o tres que se supon\u00edan anteriormente. Esto significa que las bater\u00edas podr\u00edan ser m\u00e1s potentes y econ\u00f3micas que las basadas en cobalto o n\u00edquel. El descubrimiento tambi\u00e9n podr\u00eda tener implicaciones para otras tecnolog\u00edas como las m\u00e1quinas de resonancia magn\u00e9tica, los trenes magn\u00e9ticos y los superconductores.<br><br>Tres estudiantes de doctorado de Stanford, Hari Ramachandran, Edward Mu y Eder Lomeli, lideraron un equipo de 23 investigadores de Estados Unidos, Jap\u00f3n y Corea del Sur. La innovaci\u00f3n clave fue la estructura a nanoescala de un compuesto de litio, hierro, antimonio y ox\u00edgeno.
