Las primeras pruebas demuestran que el nuevo chip es casi 500 veces m\u00e1s eficiente que los procesadores actuales resistentes a la radiaci\u00f3n que se utilizan en el espacio. El proyecto, conocido como Computaci\u00f3n Espacial de Alto Rendimiento (HPSC, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s), se centra en la creaci\u00f3n de un sistema especial capaz de soportar condiciones extremas como alta radiaci\u00f3n, vibraciones violentas durante el lanzamiento y grandes fluctuaciones de temperatura.<br><br>A diferencia de los chips comerciales est\u00e1ndar, este \u00absistema en un chip\u00bb (SoC) est\u00e1 dise\u00f1ado para combinar unidades de procesamiento, conectividad avanzada, memoria e interfaces de entrada\/salida en una \u00fanica unidad compacta. Su arquitectura se asemeja a la de los tel\u00e9fonos inteligentes y las tabletas, pero la versi\u00f3n de NAS est\u00e1 espec\u00edficamente dise\u00f1ada para entornos donde un fallo electr\u00f3nico supondr\u00eda el fin de la misi\u00f3n.<br><br>La principal ventaja del nuevo procesador reside en su compatibilidad con sistemas de inteligencia artificial. Estos permitir\u00e1n a las naves analizar su entorno, sortear obst\u00e1culos y responder a situaciones inesperadas en tiempo real. Las naves actuales suelen utilizar hardware obsoleto, ya que los chips modernos tienen dificultades para soportar la radiaci\u00f3n espacial, lo que genera un cuello de botella en el procesamiento de datos.<br><br>Los ingenieros del JPL sometieron el chip a pruebas rigurosas, incluyendo choque t\u00e9rmico e interferencia electromagn\u00e9tica. Se centraron en simular aterrizajes planetarios, donde los sensores deben procesar enormes cantidades de datos al instante.
