Por ello, la Agencia de Proyectos de Investigaci\u00f3n Avanzada de Defensa de EE. UU. (DARPA) ha lanzado un programa especial llamado ExPEDitions (Implementaciones Expedicionarias de Alta Densidad Energ\u00e9tica). El objetivo de esta iniciativa es crear bater\u00edas con qu\u00edmicas y arquitecturas avanzadas que alcancen una densidad energ\u00e9tica entre cinco y diez veces superior a la de las tecnolog\u00edas de iones de litio actuales. Seg\u00fan informes del sector, se pretende superar los 2 kilovatios-hora por kilogramo (kWh\/kg).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En el \u00e1mbito militar, la energ\u00eda es un recurso fundamental. Las tecnolog\u00edas actuales obligan a los ingenieros a sopesar la autonom\u00eda y el rendimiento. Los drones de vigilancia necesitan permanecer en el aire durante horas, mientras que los drones de combate requieren r\u00e1fagas repentinas de potencia para ejecutar maniobras agresivas. El programa ExPEDitions busca superar esta limitaci\u00f3n con bater\u00edas capaces de realizar ambas funciones simult\u00e1neamente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La mejora tecnol\u00f3gica tambi\u00e9n supondr\u00e1 una enorme ventaja log\u00edstica. Cada convoy de combustible y cada estaci\u00f3n de carga en el campo de batalla es un objetivo vulnerable. Las bater\u00edas con mayor capacidad de almacenamiento reducir\u00edan dr\u00e1sticamente el n\u00famero de peligrosas misiones de reabastecimiento necesarias para apoyar a los soldados y los sistemas aut\u00f3nomos en el terreno. Los drones podr\u00edan permanecer en posici\u00f3n durante m\u00e1s tiempo y los veh\u00edculos rob\u00f3ticos podr\u00edan recorrer mayores distancias sin depender de una infraestructura de carga fija.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La decisi\u00f3n de Washington tambi\u00e9n responde a desaf\u00edos geopol\u00edticos. Los analistas advierten que las bater\u00edas ya no son solo una cuesti\u00f3n energ\u00e9tica, sino que se han convertido en una herramienta militar estrat\u00e9gica. China controla actualmente la cadena de suministro global de bater\u00edas, desde el procesamiento del litio hasta la producci\u00f3n en masa de celdas. A medida que las fuerzas armadas electrifican cada vez m\u00e1s sus veh\u00edculos, el acceso a bater\u00edas avanzadas se ha convertido en una cuesti\u00f3n de seguridad nacional. Por lo tanto, la capacidad de producci\u00f3n nacional y las cadenas de suministro resilientes ser\u00e1n esenciales para mantener una ventaja tecnol\u00f3gica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El avance en el rendimiento de las bater\u00edas tendr\u00e1 un impacto en pr\u00e1cticamente todos los aspectos de las operaciones militares. El programa se desarrollar\u00e1 en dos fases de 36 meses, comenzando en 2027 con la adjudicaci\u00f3n de varios contratos para prototipos.
