El principal problema es su alto contenido de humedad. Los procesos tradicionales para convertirlos en combustible requieren un secado previo exhaustivo, que consume tanta energ\u00eda que todo el proceso resulta econ\u00f3micamente inviable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investigadores del Instituto Surcoreano de Geociencias y Recursos Minerales (KIGAM) han resuelto con \u00e9xito este problema mediante un nuevo proceso, que han presentado en la revista cient\u00edfica Chemical Engineering Journal. La clave del \u00e9xito reside en una tecnolog\u00eda denominada pir\u00f3lisis por plasma de llama. Este sistema permite el procesamiento directo de biomasa, con un contenido de humedad de aproximadamente el 55 %, a presi\u00f3n atmosf\u00e9rica. El dispositivo utiliza llamas de plasma con temperaturas entre 800 \u00b0C y 900 \u00b0C, generadas por la combusti\u00f3n de gas licuado de petr\u00f3leo y aire comprimido.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Debido al calor extremo, la humedad dentro de las part\u00edculas de caf\u00e9 se evapora instant\u00e1neamente. La presi\u00f3n resultante provoca microexplosiones que aceleran la carbonizaci\u00f3n y crean una estructura extremadamente porosa en el material. La humedad deja de ser un obst\u00e1culo y se convierte en un medio de activaci\u00f3n que acelera las reacciones qu\u00edmicas y mejora la calidad final del producto o combustible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En condiciones \u00f3ptimas, la conversi\u00f3n completa se realiza en tan solo 90 segundos y la masa del material se reduce en un 83,3 %. El combustible obtenido, gracias a su alta porosidad y poder calor\u00edfico, resulta adecuado tanto para combustibles s\u00f3lidos renovables de alta calidad como para materiales de carbono avanzados en la industria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La ventaja de este dispositivo compacto radica en su idoneidad para sistemas descentralizados. En lugar de transportar costosamente residuos pesados y h\u00famedos a grandes plantas de procesamiento, estas unidades de plasma podr\u00edan ubicarse directamente junto a fuentes de residuos de mayor tama\u00f1o, como tostadoras industriales o centros de acopio. Adem\u00e1s del caf\u00e9, la tecnolog\u00eda FPP tambi\u00e9n es adecuada para otros tipos de residuos org\u00e1nicos con alto contenido de humedad, incluidos los residuos alimentarios y agr\u00edcolas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cabe destacar que el sistema de plasma a\u00fan requiere combustibles f\u00f3siles para su funcionamiento.
