Se trata de una bater\u00eda totalmente nuclear desarrollada en China que utiliza el is\u00f3topo carbono-14 y un convertidor de carburo de silicio (SiC). Esta bater\u00eda nuclear representa un gran avance con respecto a su predecesora, la Zhulong-1, que entrar\u00e1 en funcionamiento en 2024, ya que supera los problemas de alto costo, baja potencia y escasa integraci\u00f3n.<br><br>A diferencia de las bater\u00edas nucleares cl\u00e1sicas que la NASA y China ya utilizan en sondas espaciales y veh\u00edculos lunares (como Chang&#039;e-3 y Chang&#039;e-4), que funcionan convirtiendo el calor en electricidad, la innovaci\u00f3n china ha optado por un enfoque diferente. La bater\u00eda funciona de forma similar a una c\u00e9lula solar, con la diferencia de que, en lugar de luz, capta electrones (part\u00edculas beta) que se liberan al desintegrarse el carbono-14, los cuales generan directamente una corriente el\u00e9ctrica en un semiconductor de carburo de silicio.<br><br>Gracias a esta tecnolog\u00eda y a una avanzada estructura plegada tridimensional, los cient\u00edficos han reducido el volumen de la bater\u00eda en un 17 por ciento, al tiempo que han aumentado la densidad de potencia volum\u00e9trica en un factor de 15. La bater\u00eda nuclear Qianjiyuan Tianshu mide poco m\u00e1s de 16,8 cent\u00edmetros c\u00fabicos, pero puede producir una corriente de 0,713 microamperios a un voltaje de 2,06 V y una potencia de salida m\u00e1xima de 1,13 microvatios.<br><br>La principal ventaja de esta bater\u00eda es su excepcional vida \u00fatil. Dado que la vida media del carbono-14 es de 5730 a\u00f1os, la bater\u00eda funcionar\u00e1 sin problemas durante miles de a\u00f1os.
