Han desarrollado un prototipo de bater\u00eda cu\u00e1ntica que no se basa en reacciones qu\u00edmicas convencionales, sino que aprovecha propiedades cu\u00e1nticas inusuales para almacenar energ\u00eda. El equipo tambi\u00e9n ha demostrado que el dispositivo puede emitir una corriente el\u00e9ctrica, acercando as\u00ed el concepto a una tecnolog\u00eda \u00fatil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La estructura prototipo es extremadamente peque\u00f1a. Se basa en una microcavidad \u00f3ptica con dos diminutos espejos separados por tan solo unos 100 nan\u00f3metros, un grosor casi mil veces menor que el de un cabello humano. El espacio entre los espejos se llena con mol\u00e9culas de un tinte org\u00e1nico, y luego toda la estructura se ilumina con un l\u00e1ser. La simple interacci\u00f3n entre la luz y las mol\u00e9culas crea un estado h\u00edbrido de luz y materia llamado polarit\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Esto crea un fen\u00f3meno conocido como superabsorci\u00f3n. Las mol\u00e9culas comienzan a trabajar juntas en lugar de individualmente, lo que cambia las reglas del juego. Cuantas m\u00e1s mol\u00e9culas haya en el sistema, m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido podr\u00e1n absorber energ\u00eda. Esto significa que una bater\u00eda cu\u00e1ntica m\u00e1s grande se carga m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido que una m\u00e1s peque\u00f1a, lo cual es justo lo contrario de lo que ocurre con las bater\u00edas de nuestros tel\u00e9fonos inteligentes o coches el\u00e9ctricos actuales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aunque el dispositivo se carga con extrema rapidez, retener la energ\u00eda sigue siendo todo un reto. Solo conserva la energ\u00eda almacenada durante unos pocos nanosegundos, lo que supone m\u00e1s de un mill\u00f3n de veces el tiempo de carga, pero a\u00fan as\u00ed es demasiado poco. La cantidad de energ\u00eda almacenada tambi\u00e9n es insignificante, apenas unos miles de millones de electronvoltios. Por consiguiente, su uso en dispositivos cotidianos todav\u00eda est\u00e1 lejos de ser una realidad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La gran ventaja de esta soluci\u00f3n australiana es que funciona a temperatura ambiente. Otras ideas para bater\u00edas cu\u00e1nticas requieren materiales superconductores y una refrigeraci\u00f3n extrema por debajo de -150 \u00b0C, algo dif\u00edcil de conseguir fuera de los laboratorios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dadas las limitaciones actuales, parece que las bater\u00edas cu\u00e1nticas encontrar\u00e1n primero su lugar en las computadoras cu\u00e1nticas. Esta tecnolog\u00eda podr\u00eda reducir el consumo de energ\u00eda de los sistemas cu\u00e1nticos, aumentar su velocidad y disminuir la cantidad de errores.
