Le laboratoire national du nord-ouest du Pacifique du DOE, en partenariat avec la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de technologie de mobilit\u00e9 Magna, vient de d\u00e9voiler une nouvelle m\u00e9thode de production qui r\u00e9duit l&#039;apport d&#039;\u00e9nergie de plus de 50 % et les \u00e9missions de dioxyde de carbone de plus de 90 % en \u00e9liminant le besoin d&#039;extraire et de traiter la m\u00eame quantit\u00e9 de minerais d&#039;aluminium bruts. De plus, l\u2019utilisation d\u2019aluminium l\u00e9ger peut \u00e9galement augmenter l\u2019autonomie des v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ce proc\u00e9d\u00e9 brevet\u00e9 et prim\u00e9 d&#039;usinage et d&#039;extrusion assist\u00e9s par cisaillement (ShAPE\u2122) collecte des morceaux et des chutes de garnitures en aluminium provenant de la fabrication automobile et les convertit directement en mat\u00e9riau appropri\u00e9 pour de nouvelles pi\u00e8ces de v\u00e9hicules. L&#039;aluminium, plus l\u00e9ger et plus r\u00e9sistant, est un mat\u00e9riau cl\u00e9 dans la strat\u00e9gie visant \u00e0 produire des v\u00e9hicules l\u00e9gers pour une efficacit\u00e9 am\u00e9lior\u00e9e, qu&#039;il s&#039;agisse d&#039;augmenter l&#039;autonomie d&#039;un v\u00e9hicule \u00e9lectrique ou de r\u00e9duire la capacit\u00e9 de la batterie. Si l\u2019industrie automobile recycle actuellement la majeure partie de son aluminium, elle y ajoute r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement de l\u2019aluminium primaire nouvellement extrait avant de le r\u00e9utiliser pour diluer les impuret\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les producteurs de m\u00e9taux utilisent \u00e9galement un proc\u00e9d\u00e9 ancestral de pr\u00e9chauffage des briques, appel\u00e9es \u00ab\u00a0billettes m\u00e9lang\u00e9es\u00a0\u00bb, \u00e0 des temp\u00e9ratures sup\u00e9rieures \u00e0 550\u00a0\u00b0C pendant plusieurs heures. Ce pr\u00e9chauffage dissout les impuret\u00e9s, telles que le silicium, le magn\u00e9sium ou le fer, pr\u00e9sentes dans le m\u00e9tal brut et les r\u00e9partit uniform\u00e9ment dans la billette gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un processus appel\u00e9 homog\u00e9n\u00e9isation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En revanche, le proc\u00e9d\u00e9 ShAPE effectue la m\u00eame \u00e9tape d&#039;homog\u00e9n\u00e9isation en moins d&#039;une seconde puis, sans pr\u00e9chauffage, convertit l&#039;aluminium solide en un produit fini en quelques minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00ab Nous avons franchi une \u00e9tape cl\u00e9 dans le d\u00e9veloppement du proc\u00e9d\u00e9 ShAPE avec nos partenaires de Magna \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Whalen. \u00ab Nous avons d\u00e9montr\u00e9 sa polyvalence en cr\u00e9ant des pi\u00e8ces carr\u00e9es, trap\u00e9zo\u00efdales et multicellulaires qui r\u00e9pondent toutes aux crit\u00e8res de qualit\u00e9 en mati\u00e8re de r\u00e9sistance et de ductilit\u00e9, ou capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 se d\u00e9former. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pour ces exp\u00e9riences, l\u2019\u00e9quipe de recherche a travaill\u00e9 avec un alliage d\u2019aluminium appel\u00e9 6063, ou aluminium architectural. Cet alliage est utilis\u00e9 pour une vari\u00e9t\u00e9 de composants automobiles tels que les supports de moteur, les pare-chocs, les longerons de cadre et les garnitures ext\u00e9rieures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L&#039;\u00e9quipe de recherche du PNNL a examin\u00e9 les formes extrud\u00e9es en utilisant la microscopie \u00e9lectronique \u00e0 balayage et la diffraction par r\u00e9trodiffusion des \u00e9lectrons, ce qui cr\u00e9e une image de la disposition et de la microstructure de chaque particule m\u00e9tallique dans le produit final. Les r\u00e9sultats ont montr\u00e9 que les produits ShAPE sont tout aussi solides et exempts de d\u00e9fauts de fabrication pouvant entra\u00eener la d\u00e9faillance de pi\u00e8ces.
