Cette avanc\u00e9e ouvre la voie \u00e0 de nouvelles technologies et permet \u00e0 cette forme inhabituelle de mati\u00e8re de devenir tangible au quotidien. Pour r\u00e9aliser cet exploit, les chercheurs ont utilis\u00e9 des cristaux liquides, le m\u00eame mat\u00e9riau que l&#039;on retrouve dans les \u00e9crans LCD.<br><br>D\u00e9crits th\u00e9oriquement pour la premi\u00e8re fois en 2012 par le prix Nobel Frank Wilczek, les cristaux temporels repr\u00e9sentent une phase exotique de la mati\u00e8re o\u00f9 les particules restent en mouvement constant et r\u00e9p\u00e9titif, m\u00eame au repos. On peut les comparer \u00e0 une horloge fonctionnant sans pile. Bien que des scientifiques aient d\u00e9j\u00e0 cr\u00e9\u00e9 des cristaux temporels microscopiques \u00e0 l&#039;aide d&#039;ordinateurs quantiques, celui-ci, r\u00e9alis\u00e9 \u00e0 l&#039;Universit\u00e9 du Colorado \u00e0 Boulder, est le premier \u00e0 \u00eatre observ\u00e9 directement.<br><br>Le professeur Ivan Smalyukh et son doctorant Hanqing Zhao ont plac\u00e9 des cristaux liquides entre deux plaques de verre recouvertes d&#039;un colorant. Sous une lumi\u00e8re sp\u00e9ciale, les mol\u00e9cules de colorant se sont press\u00e9es contre les cristaux liquides, cr\u00e9ant des milliers de nouvelles \u00ab rides \u00bb. Ces rides ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 se d\u00e9placer et \u00e0 interagir selon des motifs complexes et r\u00e9p\u00e9titifs qui ont persist\u00e9 pendant des heures et sont rest\u00e9s inchang\u00e9s malgr\u00e9 les variations de temp\u00e9rature.<br><br>Les chercheurs proposent deux applications pratiques. La premi\u00e8re est un \u00ab\u00a0filigrane temporel\u00a0\u00bb sur les billets de banque, r\u00e9v\u00e9lant des motifs authentiques lorsqu&#039;il est \u00e9clair\u00e9.
