Ceci facilite l&#039;int\u00e9gration des qubits dans les puces de silicium, ouvrant la voie \u00e0 des dispositifs quantiques plus petits et plus compacts.<br><br>L&#039;\u00e9quipe a publi\u00e9 ses r\u00e9sultats le 2 octobre dans la revue Science, d\u00e9crivant cette technologie comme \u00ab un \u00e9l\u00e9ment de base prometteur pour les technologies quantiques \u00e9volutives \u00bb, allant des liaisons de communication ultra-s\u00e9curis\u00e9es aux r\u00e9seaux quantiques \u00e0 longue port\u00e9e.<br><br>Contrairement aux qubits traditionnels, g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement des circuits supraconducteurs, des ions pi\u00e9g\u00e9s ou des photons, les qubits mol\u00e9culaires utilisent des mol\u00e9cules individuelles dont le spin \u00e9lectronique d\u00e9termine l&#039;\u00e9tat quantique. Le qubit \u00e0 l&#039;erbium est particulier car il fonctionne \u00e0 la fois comme qubit de spin et comme qubit photonique\u00a0: il peut stocker l&#039;information magn\u00e9tiquement tout en \u00e9tant lu optiquement.<br><br>Lors d&#039;exp\u00e9riences, les chercheurs sont parvenus \u00e0 placer les spins d&#039;un atome d&#039;erbium dans une superposition contr\u00f4l\u00e9e, puis \u00e0 mesurer les \u00e9tats quantiques par spectroscopie optique. \u00ab Ces mol\u00e9cules peuvent servir de pont nanom\u00e9trique entre le magn\u00e9tisme et l&#039;optique \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Leah Weiss, co-auteure de l&#039;\u00e9tude.<br><br>L&#039;utilisation des longueurs d&#039;onde des t\u00e9l\u00e9communications pr\u00e9sente deux avantages majeurs\u00a0: les signaux parcourent de longues distances avec des pertes minimales et la lumi\u00e8re traverse facilement le silicium sans absorption. Ces propri\u00e9t\u00e9s rendent les qubits \u00e0 erbium id\u00e9aux pour les dispositifs sur puce.<br><br>Chaque qubit est constitu\u00e9 d&#039;une seule mol\u00e9cule, environ 100\u00a0000 fois plus petite qu&#039;un cheveu humain, et sa structure peut \u00eatre adapt\u00e9e gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la chimie de synth\u00e8se.
