Les premiers tests montrent que cette nouvelle puce est pr\u00e8s de 500 fois plus performante que les processeurs durcis aux radiations actuellement utilis\u00e9s dans l&#039;espace. Ce projet, baptis\u00e9 High Performance Spaceflight Computing (HPSC), vise \u00e0 cr\u00e9er un syst\u00e8me capable de r\u00e9sister \u00e0 des conditions extr\u00eames telles qu&#039;un fort rayonnement, de violentes vibrations au lancement et d&#039;importantes variations de temp\u00e9rature.<br><br>Contrairement aux puces commerciales classiques, ce \u00ab\u00a0syst\u00e8me sur puce\u00a0\u00bb (SoC) est con\u00e7u pour int\u00e9grer des unit\u00e9s de traitement, des fonctionnalit\u00e9s r\u00e9seau avanc\u00e9es, de la m\u00e9moire et des interfaces d&#039;entr\u00e9e\/sortie dans un seul bo\u00eetier compact. Son architecture est similaire \u00e0 celle des smartphones et des tablettes, mais la version de NAS est sp\u00e9cifiquement con\u00e7ue pour les environnements o\u00f9 une d\u00e9faillance \u00e9lectronique entra\u00eenerait l&#039;arr\u00eat complet de la mission.<br><br>Le principal avantage du nouveau processeur r\u00e9side dans sa compatibilit\u00e9 avec les syst\u00e8mes d&#039;intelligence artificielle. Ces derniers permettront aux navires d&#039;analyser leur environnement, de naviguer entre les dangers et de r\u00e9agir en temps r\u00e9el aux situations impr\u00e9vues. Les navires actuels utilisent souvent du mat\u00e9riel obsol\u00e8te, car les puces modernes peinent \u00e0 r\u00e9sister aux radiations spatiales, ce qui engendre un goulot d&#039;\u00e9tranglement dans le traitement des donn\u00e9es.<br><br>Les ing\u00e9nieurs du JPL ont soumis la puce \u00e0 des tests rigoureux, notamment des chocs thermiques et des interf\u00e9rences \u00e9lectromagn\u00e9tiques. Ils se sont concentr\u00e9s sur la simulation d&#039;atterrissages plan\u00e9taires, o\u00f9 les capteurs doivent traiter instantan\u00e9ment d&#039;\u00e9normes quantit\u00e9s de donn\u00e9es. Jim Butler, chef de projet au JPL, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 qu&#039;ils testaient du mat\u00e9riel qui permettra \u00e0 la NASA de franchir de nouvelles \u00e9tapes importantes.<br><br>Microchip Technology, partenaire s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9 en 2022, a investi ses propres ressources dans le d\u00e9veloppement de ce processeur aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de la NASA.
