Cette technologie vise \u00e0 r\u00e9duire l&#039;absorption de chaleur par les b\u00e2timents, abaissant ainsi la temp\u00e9rature int\u00e9rieure et, par cons\u00e9quent, diminuant consid\u00e9rablement le recours \u00e0 la climatisation. Le rev\u00eatement est compos\u00e9 d&#039;un polym\u00e8re sp\u00e9cialement adapt\u00e9, le PVDF-HFP, qui contient des pores microscopiques. Ces pores diffusent efficacement les rayons du soleil et emp\u00eachent le mat\u00e9riau sous-jacent de chauffer.<br><br>Contrairement aux rev\u00eatements de toiture et de fa\u00e7ade classiques, qui absorbent l&#039;\u00e9nergie solaire pendant la journ\u00e9e et deviennent extr\u00eamement chauds, ce rev\u00eatement fonctionne selon le principe du refroidissement radiatif passif diurne. Il r\u00e9fl\u00e9chit la majeure partie de la lumi\u00e8re et \u00e9vacue la chaleur restante loin du b\u00e2timent. Des essais en laboratoire et sur le terrain ont d\u00e9montr\u00e9 que les surfaces rev\u00eatues \u00e9taient jusqu&#039;\u00e0 25 \u00b0C plus froides que les toitures sombres et jusqu&#039;\u00e0 6 \u00b0C plus froides que l&#039;air ambiant dans les m\u00eames conditions. Bien que la peinture ne puisse remplacer totalement la climatisation, elle peut contribuer significativement \u00e0 la r\u00e9duction des co\u00fbts d&#039;\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 dans les r\u00e9gions sujettes \u00e0 des vagues de chaleur prolong\u00e9es.<br><br>La caract\u00e9ristique la plus remarquable de cette peinture intelligente r\u00e9side dans sa capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 capter l&#039;humidit\u00e9 ambiante. La surface, plus froide que l&#039;air environnant, favorise la condensation de la vapeur d&#039;eau. Ce processus enti\u00e8rement naturel, comparable \u00e0 la formation de la ros\u00e9e matinale, ne n\u00e9cessite aucune source d&#039;\u00e9nergie externe. Lors de six mois d&#039;essais sur le toit d&#039;un centre de nanotechnologies \u00e0 Sydney, le rev\u00eatement a collect\u00e9 l&#039;humidit\u00e9 pendant environ un tiers de l&#039;ann\u00e9e et, dans des conditions optimales, a produit jusqu&#039;\u00e0 390 millilitres d&#039;eau par m\u00e8tre carr\u00e9 et par jour.<br><br>Les scientifiques estiment que cette technologie trouvera \u00e9galement des applications dans d&#039;autres domaines. Ils entrevoient un potentiel pour les b\u00e2timents commerciaux, les entrep\u00f4ts, les installations agricoles et les communaut\u00e9s isol\u00e9es. Cette technologie pourrait s&#039;av\u00e9rer pr\u00e9cieuse dans des pays comme l&#039;Inde, o\u00f9 les habitants sont confront\u00e9s \u00e0 la fois \u00e0 la hausse des temp\u00e9ratures et \u00e0 de graves p\u00e9nuries d&#039;eau potable.
