De nombreuses r\u00e9gions du monde d\u00e9pendent des usines de dessalement d&#039;eau de mer, mais les m\u00e9thodes traditionnelles comme l&#039;osmose inverse et la distillation thermique sont extr\u00eamement co\u00fbteuses et \u00e9nergivores. Elles n\u00e9cessitent \u00e9galement un traitement chimique et g\u00e9n\u00e8rent d&#039;\u00e9normes quantit\u00e9s de saumure concentr\u00e9e. Lorsque ce liquide sal\u00e9 est rejet\u00e9 en mer, il constitue une grave menace pour les \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes marins en raison de l&#039;augmentation de la salinit\u00e9 et de la diminution de l&#039;oxyg\u00e8ne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Une \u00e9quipe de chercheurs de l&#039;Universit\u00e9 de Rochester, dirig\u00e9e par Chunlei Guo, professeur d&#039;optique et de physique, a mis au point une approche novatrice. Leur syst\u00e8me, aliment\u00e9 \u00e0 l&#039;\u00e9nergie solaire, ne n\u00e9cessite aucun pr\u00e9traitement chimique et ne produit aucune saumure. Cette technologie repose sur des panneaux solaires sp\u00e9cialement adapt\u00e9s, compos\u00e9s de m\u00e9tal noir trait\u00e9 par laser femtoseconde. Cette microstructure permet \u00e0 la surface d&#039;absorber la quasi-totalit\u00e9 du rayonnement solaire tout en \u00ab attirant \u00bb l&#039;eau. Les lasers pr\u00e9sents sur le panneau cr\u00e9ent une zone active qui attire une fine couche d&#039;eau de mer \u00e0 sa surface. Sous l&#039;effet de la chaleur du soleil, l&#039;eau s&#039;\u00e9vapore et se liqu\u00e9fie pour former de l&#039;eau potable, tandis que les sels et min\u00e9raux dissous migrent automatiquement vers les zones passives du panneau, emp\u00eachant ainsi le colmatage du syst\u00e8me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L&#039;innovation majeure r\u00e9side dans le fait que l&#039;eau de mer, outre le chlorure de sodium, contient du magn\u00e9sium et du calcium qui, en s&#039;\u00e9vaporant, forment une cro\u00fbte dure et dense. Ce processus est similaire \u00e0 la formation de tartre dans un chauffe-eau. Pour y rem\u00e9dier, les scientifiques ont con\u00e7u des micro-rainures dans le m\u00e9tal et exploit\u00e9 un ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne physique bien connu\u00a0: l&#039;effet de tache de caf\u00e9. Lorsqu&#039;une goutte de caf\u00e9 s\u00e8che, elle laisse un anneau sombre de particules concentr\u00e9es sur les bords. Le syst\u00e8me utilise le m\u00eame principe pour d\u00e9placer le sel vers les bords. Cette technologie a \u00e9t\u00e9 test\u00e9e avec succ\u00e8s avec de l&#039;eau des oc\u00e9ans Pacifique, Atlantique et Indien, la surface se nettoyant compl\u00e8tement d&#039;elle-m\u00eame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Au lieu de d\u00e9chets liquides dangereux pour l&#039;environnement, ce proc\u00e9d\u00e9 \u00e9limine la quasi-totalit\u00e9 des sels sous forme solide.
