Install\u00e9 \u00e0 l&#039;Universit\u00e9 Jiao Tong de Shanghai, ce laboratoire permettra \u00e0 des experts et \u00e0 des partenaires externes de d\u00e9velopper des puces photoniques, des composants optiques, des architectures informatiques et les logiciels associ\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cette initiative intervient alors que les entreprises technologiques et les gouvernements s&#039;efforcent de s\u00e9curiser la puissance de calcul n\u00e9cessaire \u00e0 l&#039;entra\u00eenement et \u00e0 l&#039;ex\u00e9cution de mod\u00e8les d&#039;intelligence artificielle avanc\u00e9s. Face \u00e0 la consommation croissante d&#039;\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 des centres de donn\u00e9es, les scientifiques recherchent des alternatives aux circuits en silicium traditionnels. Les puces classiques utilisent des \u00e9lectrons pour transmettre les donn\u00e9es, tandis que les syst\u00e8mes photoniques reposent sur les photons, ou particules de lumi\u00e8re.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zou Weiwen, directeur du laboratoire et professeur \u00e0 l&#039;universit\u00e9, a soulign\u00e9 que la technologie photonique ouvre la voie \u00e0 des avanc\u00e9es majeures en mati\u00e8re de performances informatiques, offrant des avantages consid\u00e9rables en termes de bande passante, de latence et d&#039;efficacit\u00e9 \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique. Les travaux de recherche porteront donc sur l&#039;architecture des puces, l&#039;int\u00e9gration de la photonique sur silicium, le d\u00e9veloppement de dispositifs optiques, les algorithmes associ\u00e9s et la recherche d&#039;applications commerciales concr\u00e8tes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L&#039;informatique photonique rev\u00eat une grande importance strat\u00e9gique pour la Chine, les autorit\u00e9s de Shanghai ayant soutenu ce projet \u00e0 travers plusieurs programmes scientifiques et des investissements dans le d\u00e9veloppement industriel, car les processeurs conventionnels du monde entier approchent d\u00e9j\u00e0 dangereusement de leurs limites physiques et thermiques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ce projet est une initiative conjointe de l&#039;universit\u00e9 Jiao Tong et de Lightelligence, une start-up de photonique bas\u00e9e \u00e0 Shanghai, qui a d\u00e9j\u00e0 fait la une des journaux en affirmant \u00eatre la premi\u00e8re \u00e0 avoir d\u00e9ploy\u00e9 avec succ\u00e8s des syst\u00e8mes informatiques hybrides opto\u00e9lectroniques \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle, ce qui en fait un acteur majeur du secteur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Malgr\u00e9 l&#039;enthousiasme suscit\u00e9, d&#039;importants obstacles techniques restent \u00e0 surmonter avant une adoption massive. Weiwen souligne que l&#039;un des principaux d\u00e9fis r\u00e9side dans l&#039;absence d&#039;un \u00e9cosyst\u00e8me logiciel et algorithmique mature capable d&#039;exploiter pleinement le potentiel du mat\u00e9riel photonique.
