Ils ont mis au point un prototype de batterie quantique qui, au lieu de recourir \u00e0 des r\u00e9actions chimiques classiques, exploite des propri\u00e9t\u00e9s quantiques exceptionnelles pour stocker l&#039;\u00e9nergie. L&#039;\u00e9quipe a \u00e9galement d\u00e9montr\u00e9 que le dispositif peut \u00e9mettre un courant \u00e9lectrique, rapprochant ainsi ce concept d&#039;une technologie utilisable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La structure prototype est extr\u00eamement petite. Elle repose sur une microcavit\u00e9 optique constitu\u00e9e de deux minuscules miroirs distants d&#039;\u00e0 peine 100 nanom\u00e8tres, soit pr\u00e8s de mille fois plus fins qu&#039;un cheveu. L&#039;espace entre les miroirs est rempli de mol\u00e9cules d&#039;un colorant organique, puis l&#039;ensemble est illumin\u00e9 par un laser. L&#039;interaction entre la lumi\u00e8re et les mol\u00e9cules cr\u00e9e un \u00e9tat hybride de lumi\u00e8re et de mati\u00e8re appel\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0polariton\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cela cr\u00e9e un ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne appel\u00e9 superabsorption. Les mol\u00e9cules commencent \u00e0 agir de concert plut\u00f4t qu&#039;individuellement, ce qui change la donne. Plus le nombre de mol\u00e9cules dans le syst\u00e8me est \u00e9lev\u00e9, plus elles absorbent rapidement l&#039;\u00e9nergie. Ainsi, une batterie quantique de grande capacit\u00e9 se charge plus vite qu&#039;une batterie plus petite, contrairement aux batteries de nos smartphones ou voitures \u00e9lectriques actuels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bien que l&#039;appareil se recharge extr\u00eamement rapidement, la conservation de l&#039;\u00e9nergie reste un d\u00e9fi de taille. Il ne la conserve que pendant quelques nanosecondes, soit plus d&#039;un million de fois le temps de charge, mais encore trop peu. La quantit\u00e9 d&#039;\u00e9nergie stock\u00e9e est \u00e9galement n\u00e9gligeable, de l&#039;ordre de quelques milliards d&#039;\u00e9lectronvolts seulement. Par cons\u00e9quent, son utilisation dans les appareils du quotidien n&#039;est pas pour demain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le principal avantage de cette solution australienne est qu&#039;elle fonctionne \u00e0 temp\u00e9rature ambiante. D&#039;autres id\u00e9es de batteries quantiques n\u00e9cessitent des mat\u00e9riaux supraconducteurs et un refroidissement extr\u00eame en dessous de \u2212150 \u00b0C, ce qui est difficile \u00e0 r\u00e9aliser en dehors des laboratoires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Compte tenu des limitations actuelles, il semble que les batteries quantiques trouveront d&#039;abord leur place dans les ordinateurs quantiques. Cette technologie pourrait r\u00e9duire la consommation d&#039;\u00e9nergie des syst\u00e8mes quantiques, augmenter leur vitesse et diminuer le nombre d&#039;erreurs. Cependant, le principal d\u00e9fi demeure\u00a0: comment extraire l&#039;\u00e9nergie stock\u00e9e de mani\u00e8re stable, contr\u00f4l\u00e9e et pratique\u00a0?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les \u00e9tats quantiques sont tr\u00e8s sensibles \u00e0 leur environnement. Certains scientifiques envisagent d\u00e9j\u00e0 des conceptions hybrides combinant une charge quantique rapide \u00e0 des couches classiques pour le stockage \u00e0 long terme.
