Tim sa Stanforda otkrio je na\u010din da se \u017eeljezo dovede u energetsko stanje koje nikada prije nije vi\u0111eno. Ovaj proboj mogao bi preoblikovati budu\u0107nost litij-ionskih baterija i drugih energetskih tehnologija.<br><br>Istra\u017eivanje pokazuje da \u017eeljezo mo\u017ee otpustiti i ponovno apsorbirati \u010dak pet elektrona, u odnosu na prethodno pretpostavljena dva ili tri. To zna\u010di da bi baterije mogle postati sna\u017enije i jeftinije od onih na bazi kobalta ili nikla. Otkri\u0107e bi tako\u0111er moglo imati implikacije za druge tehnologije poput MRI ure\u0111aja, magnetskih vlakova i supravodi\u010da.<br><br>Tri doktoranda sa Stanforda, Hari Ramachandran, Edward Mu i Eder Lomeli, predvodili su tim od 23 istra\u017eiva\u010da iz SAD-a, Japana i Ju\u017ene Koreje. Klju\u010dna inovacija bila je nanoskalna struktura spoja litija, \u017eeljeza, antimona i kisika. Smanjivanjem \u010destica na 0,3-0,4 mikrometra, omogu\u0107ili su atomima \u017eeljeza da izmijene pet elektrona bez naru\u0161avanja kristalne strukture.<br><br>Lomelijeva analiza rendgenskih spektara potvrdila je da kisik igra klju\u010dnu ulogu. \u201eRadi se o koordiniranom djelovanju cijele strukture\u201c, rekao je.
