Koriste\u0107i kvantne materijale, prvi put su eksperimentalno potvrdili generiranje harmonika vi\u0161eg reda (HHG) u terahercnom (THz) rasponu, uklju\u010duju\u0107i parne frekvencije. To je prije bilo nemogu\u0107e zbog simetrije ve\u0107ine materijala.<br><br>HHG omogu\u0107uje pretvorbu svjetlosti u vi\u0161e frekvencije, otvaraju\u0107i pristup ina\u010de nedostupnim dijelovima elektromagnetskog spektra. Grafen je dugo bio obe\u0107avaju\u0107i kandidat, ali zbog svoje savr\u0161ene simetrije proizvodi samo neparne harmonike.<br><br>U studiji objavljenoj u \u010dasopisu Light: Science &amp; Applications, tim pod vodstvom prof. Miriam Serene Vitiello koristio je topolo\u0161ke izolatore (TI), materijale koji provode elektri\u010dnu energiju na povr\u0161ini, a iznutra su izolatori. Imaju jedinstvena kvantna svojstva zbog sna\u017enog spin-orbitalnog sprezanja i simetrije vremenske inverzije.<br><br>Istra\u017eiva\u010di su koristili nanostrukture s razdvojenim prstenastim rezonatorom (SRR) i kombinirali ih s tankim slojevima Bi\u2082Se\u2083 i heterostrukturama (In\u2093Bi\u2081\u208b\u2093)\u2082Se\u2083. Koriste\u0107i kvantni kaskadni laser od 2,5 W THz, postigli su poja\u010danje svjetlosti i uo\u010dili HHG na 6,4 THz (parni) i 9,7 THz (neparni).<br><br>Rezultati potvr\u0111uju teorijska predvi\u0111anja i omogu\u0107uju razvoj kompaktnih THz izvora svjetlosti, senzora i ultrabrzih optoelektroni\u010dkih komponenti. Napredak pokazuje veliki potencijal kvantnih materijala za budu\u0107e tehnologije.
