Konvencionalne baterije koriste agresivne kiseline i baze koje s vremenom nagrizaju unutarnje materijale i predstavljaju ozbiljan ekolo\u0161ki rizik ako se nepravilno odlo\u017ee. Novi dizajn to u potpunosti izbjegava.<br><br>Umjesto otrovnih elektrolita, baterija koristi neutralnu otopinu magnezijevih i kalcijevih soli, sli\u010dnu onima koje se koriste u tofuu. Elektrolit ima pH vrijednost 7, \u0161to zna\u010di da ne nagriza elektrode i omogu\u0107uje znatno dulji vijek trajanja.<br><br>Negativna elektroda temelji se na posebno sintetiziranom organskom polimeru koji djeluje kao visoko vodljiva plasti\u010dna mre\u017ea. Njegove kemijske veze omogu\u0107uju brzo pohranjivanje dvovalentnih iona, \u0161to je klju\u010dno za stabilan rad. Pozitivna elektroda izra\u0111ena je od pruskog plavog, dobro poznatog materijala u svijetu vodenih baterija.<br><br>Testiranje je pokazalo da \u0107elija posti\u017ee napon od 2,2 V i specifi\u010dnu energiju od 48,3 Wh\/kg, a najimpresivniji podatak je njezina iznimna trajnost: baterija je ostala stabilna kroz 120 000 ciklusa pri visokom optere\u0107enju od 20 A\/g. Ako se puni jednom dnevno, teoretski bi trajala vi\u0161e od 300 godina, \u0161to je neusporedivo s konvencionalnim baterijama koje po\u010dinju otkazivati nakon nekoliko tisu\u0107a ciklusa.<br><br>Sustav tako\u0111er posti\u017ee specifi\u010dni kapacitet od 112,8 mAh\/g, a materijali su potpuno netoksi\u010dni i u skladu s me\u0111unarodnim ekolo\u0161kim standardima kao \u0161to su RCRA i ISO 14001.
