Finora, alternative come quelle al sodio o al potassio hanno fallito a causa della bassa densit\u00e0 energetica e dei problemi di instabilit\u00e0 a tensioni pi\u00f9 elevate. Il nuovo design utilizza un&#039;innovativa soluzione elettrolitica che previene la degradazione dei materiali, consentendo un funzionamento sicuro a tensioni superiori a 4 volt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Queste celle, che in laboratorio misurano circa 4,5 cm x 3,2 cm, sono realizzate con materiali significativamente pi\u00f9 facilmente reperibili in natura rispetto al litio. Gli esperti stimano che l&#039;utilizzo del potassio potrebbe ridurre i costi di produzione delle batterie di oltre il 40%. Mentre una tonnellata di carbonato di litio costa decine di migliaia di euro, le materie prime per le batterie al potassio sono disponibili a un prezzo compreso tra 450 e 900 euro a tonnellata.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sebbene queste batterie siano leggermente pi\u00f9 pesanti delle batterie al litio e misurino circa 15 cm di lunghezza per i moduli standard, sono ideali per l&#039;accumulo di energia stazionario nella rete elettrica. Ci\u00f2 significa che grandi sistemi di batterie che immagazzinano energia solare ed eolica potrebbero essere costruiti a costi molto pi\u00f9 bassi.
