After 14 years of walking, the streamer has reached the legendary edge of the world in Minecraft!

Minecraft is considered one of the largest gaming environments, but even it has its limits. In older versions, the world ends at about 12.5 million blocks, where a strange vertical wall known as the “Far Lands” appears. YouTuber and Twitch streamer kurtjmac decided to reach this mysterious edge on foot. Without teleportation, cheats, or mods, it took him over 14 years.

The journey began in 2011 in Minecraft Beta 1.7.3, the last version to contain this bug. During the journey, kurtjmac live-streamed his adventure and raised funds for various charities. Instead of taking shortcuts, he documented each step in a series of videos called “Far Lands or Bust” (FLoB).

He finally reached the goal of 5 hours and 34 minutes in the last stream, which was day 69 of FLoB-a-Thon Season 12. He finally saw the expected strange formation of Far Lands, after almost 14 years of walking.

Each block in Minecraft measures 1 x 1 x 1 meter, which means he walked about 12,500 kilometers, or the distance between New York and Cape Town. Considering that there are 8,760 hours in a year, his average speed was just over 100 meters per hour. Although the pace is slow, the streamer also had a life outside the game, playing other maps.

His achievement proves that sometimes the journey is more important than the destination, and the community he built along the way was, he says, the most beautiful part of the entire experience.
