Huawei conquers the wearables market, continues its dominance with new watches
Huawei unveiled a new generation of its devices at an event in Paris, featuring the Watch GT 6 smartwatch, the new nova 14 series of phones, the MatePad 12 X tablet, and the FreeBuds 7i wireless headphones. The event was both a technological and design spectacle that indicated how the company wants to get closer to the younger generation of users.
Huawei Watch GT 6 Series – sports and battery in the spotlight
The most attention was received by the new Watch GT 6 series, which follows the philosophy of combining sports and fashion. The biggest novelty is the completely redesigned TruSense system, which promises more accurate and faster health measurements. The watch has improved GPS, which is especially important for outdoor athletes - cyclists, runners and ski touring. These activities also show off a set of new sports modes, such as a cycling mode with a virtual power meter or a running mode with real-time slope analysis. It is also surprising that despite its rich functionality, the watch achieves up to 21 days of autonomy, which is one of the best results in this segment. This is the result of extremely economical use, with typical use you can expect up to 12 days, which is still an excellent result, far ahead of most of the competition.
It is worth adding that Huawei is investing heavily in the connectivity of its watches with the Health+ ecosystem, which is now available in several countries. The GT 6 allows for better integration with mobile phones, which means easier data transfer and wider support for third-party applications. The design of the watch remains classic, stainless steel/titanium and sapphire glass on the Pro models, which indicates that Huawei remains loyal to users who also want an elegant look.
Watch Ultimate 2 and Watch D2 – two very different but specialized tools
A special chapter is written by the Watch Ultimate 2, which is the first smartwatch designed for diving to a depth of 150 meters, and even allows sonar communication between watches underwater. This is a solution that divers will appreciate, although for most users it is more of an exotic addition than a necessary feature. The Watch D2, on the other hand, is more health-oriented. Blood pressure monitoring now includes recurring reminders and measurement over a longer time interval, which brings additional value for more serious health monitoring.
Both devices show that Huawei is segmenting its offering according to different user needs. The Ultimate series is aimed at extreme athletes and adventurers, while the D2 is more health-oriented and targets older users or those with health issues. This differentiation makes sense, as the smartwatch market is evolving towards specialization and Huawei clearly wants to cover both poles, sports and health.
Huawei nova 14 phones – portraits in a new way
The new nova 14 series of phones continues the focus on portrait photography. The main innovation is the Ultra Chroma camera, which, together with the improved XD Portrait Engine, allows for portraits with more depth and detail, even in more challenging lighting conditions. Of particular note is the 50 MP front camera with dual autofocus and 5x portrait zoom, a feature aimed at social media users. Also worth mentioning is the set of UI tools for quick editing, among which stand out AI Best Expression and AI Remove, which act as a digital assistant for correcting errors in photos.
In addition to cameras, the phones are also focused on displays. The nova 14 series brings OLED displays with high refresh rates and improved energy efficiency. Huawei continues to integrate its own operating system, HarmonyOS, which is already becoming the standard in China, but in Europe it is still supplementing the Android experience without Google services. This means that users will once again have to rely on the AppGallery, third-party stores and libraries that simulate the Google environment.
The MatePad 12 X is a tablet for creators
The MatePad 12 X with PaperMatte display is aimed primarily at users who use the tablet for creation and learning. Combined with the M-Pencil Pro, it offers convenient features such as a radial shortcut menu, one-click access to notes, and quick switch between brushes with a twist. Huawei is targeting a segment of users who are looking for a paper-like feel when writing and drawing, which is becoming an increasingly popular niche.
The tablet also features an improved multitasking system, allowing users to manage multiple apps on a single screen at the same time. This is especially useful for students and professionals who want to combine note-taking, video calling, and web browsing. Huawei also emphasized the device's energy efficiency, as the PaperMatte display consumes less power, which means longer battery life, an important factor for tablets that are often used on the go.
FreeBuds 7i – good sound and even better ANC
The main focus of the FreeBuds 7i headphones is on Intelligent Dynamic ANC 4.0, which promises adaptive noise cancellation. The headphones automatically respond to their surroundings, for example when moving from a quiet office to a noisy street. In addition, they offer surround sound and stable calls, which puts them on par with the competition in the mid-price range. Their orientation is clear. They are aimed at younger users who want headphones for versatile use, from the way to school to relaxing with music in the afternoon.
Huawei also highlights the autonomy of the FreeBuds 7i, up to 40 hours of playback with the charging case, and the possibility of quick charging, where 10 minutes is enough for several hours of use. It is especially important that the headphones remain light and comfortable for long-term wear, which is an often overlooked but key factor.
Portfolio expansion and focus on young people
Huawei is showing a two-pronged approach with its new devices. On the one hand, it is consolidating the premium segment (Ultimate 2, GT 6 Pro), where the emphasis is on technical performance and specialization, and on the other hand, it is building a bridge to younger users with more affordable devices like the new 14 and FreeBuds 7i. Under the slogan Now Is Yours The company says it wants to bring technology closer to everyday life while remaining relevant in a global context despite all the challenges they face every year.
In terms of design, performance and user experience, Huawei once again proves that it can prepare a comprehensive package of devices that cover sports, work and entertainment.
