Windows 11 25H2 update brings text editor and multi-screen notifications
A new update to Windows 11, version 25H2, has recently become publicly available. Microsoft has confirmed that upgrading is easy via the eKB5054156 package. The update includes a number of new features, although some of the promised ones are not yet available.
Among the missing features is Administrator Protection, which is supposed to improve security in a business environment. On the other hand, Microsoft has added some unexpected innovations, such as the ability to display notifications on a secondary display. The latter feature will be especially useful for users with multiple displays.
The biggest new feature is for developers and power users: the new command-line text editor Edit. Available in versions 25H2 and 24H2, it allows you to edit files via Terminal with the command “edit [filename]”.
Edit is an open source, lightweight editor with a TUI graphical interface, designed for ease of use. It replaces the old MS-DOS editor, which was discontinued on 64-bit systems. It is less than 250 KB in size and supports multiple files, mouse navigation, and other features.
Microsoft is filling a long-standing void in command-line tools and opening the door to new possibilities for developers.
