Nvidia reportedly halts production of RTX 5060 Ti 16GB graphics cards
Nvidia is reportedly preparing to temporarily halt production of the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB graphics card, leaving only the 8GB version on sale. The 16GB model is one of the few sensible buys under $410, but it's been plagued by bad news due to memory shortages across the entire RTX 50 series.
Last month, reports surfaced that a shortage of GDDR7 memory could severely limit supply of the 16GB model, but new information suggests that Nvidia could temporarily halt production of the model altogether.
Board Channels reports that memory chip prices have risen significantly, forcing the company to change its strategy. Since the RTX 5060 Ti comes in 8GB and 16GB versions, the more expensive version is a logical target for production cuts. Nvidia is reportedly looking to secure enough memory for the RTX 5070 series, which is key to competing against AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 cards, both of which feature 16GB of graphics memory.
The RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti have 12GB and 16GB of memory respectively, so stable supply in this segment is extremely important for the company. As a result, they may temporarily stop production of the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB to ensure sufficient quantities for the higher-end models.
Surprisingly, the 16GB version sold well on the market, so this decision is unexpected. However, high graphics memory prices are expected to reduce production of the entire RTX 50 series. Since the information is not official, it should be taken with a certain amount of caution.
