Microsoft is finalizing preparations for the release of the next annual update for Windows 11: version 25H2. According to Windows Latest, the update (version 26200.6584) has reached RTM status, meaning it is ready for PC manufacturers. It will soon be available to all Windows 11 users.

The new 25H2 is actually an activation package, as all the features already exist in version 24H2. The update simply enables them. The biggest change is the redesigned Start menu. This simplifies the layout into a single panel and allows the removal of the “Recommended” section. This means a cleaner experience without Microsoft’s promotional content.

Interestingly, this redesigned Start menu will also be gradually available to 24H2 users. Some may even receive it before those who upgrade to 25H2. This will depend on the hardware and the timing of the update.

While 25H2 may include minor behind-the-scenes improvements and extended support (an extra year), early testing doesn't show any performance gains. The update is expected to be released in late September or early October, just before Windows 10's end of support in mid-October.
