The legendary Commodore 64 returns in a new guise
Few home computers have as much cult status as the Commodore 64. Now it's making a comeback in a modern version, the Commodore 64 Ultimate. The new product is now available for pre-order at a price of 275 euros. Delivery is scheduled for October or November of this year.
The new version of the Commodore 64 Ultimate remains faithful to the original, offering compatibility with at least 99 percent of old cartridges, games, and accessories from the 1980s and 1990s. Instead of the original processor, it uses an AMD Xilinx Artix-7 FPGA, with 128 MB of DDR2 system memory and 16 MB of storage.
Modern connections include HDMI and DIN-8 video outputs (for use on CRT TVs), as well as 3.5mm audio output and optical S/PDIF. In addition, there is Ethernet, Wi-Fi for connectivity, USB support, a cassette and floppy disk emulator. A keyboard with an original layout is built in, this time with Gateron Pro 3.0 mechanical switches and attractive RGB lighting.
Also included is a USB stick with licensed retro games, music, and an exclusive sequel to the classic Jupiter Lander called Ascension. That's why we're sure the new Commodore 64 Ultimate will appeal to many.
