The most repairable smartwatch ever is...
Google recently introduced the Pixel Watch 4 smartwatch, which brings minor technical improvements compared to its predecessor, but stands out mainly for its exceptional repairability. iFixit confirmed that the watch is designed with serviceability in mind. It uses o-rings and screws instead of glue, which makes disassembly much easier.
The screws activate a mechanism with articulated arms that hold the back cover firmly in place. To protect against water, the screws are hidden under the strap holders, and special O-rings are used. The battery is also attached with screws, which is a rarity - most smartwatches use glue, which makes it difficult to replace.
The rest of the components are also designed with replaceability in mind, which iFixit rated 9 out of 10. That's an outstanding score, as most watches only get a 3 or 4. This means the Pixel Watch 4 is currently the most repairable smartwatch on the market.
Still, the high repairability may not be enough to make you want to switch if you already have a Pixel Watch 3 (41mm, currently around $189). The hardware hasn't changed much, but if Google continues with this design, future generations will be much more appealing.
