There was no shortage of technological magic at this year's State of Unreal, a traditional event hosted by Epic Games. As always, Epic presents a stunning technical demonstration showcasing the capabilities of its latest engine. This time, the spotlight was on its partnership with game developer CD Projekt Red. The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077.

The demo, built in the latest version of Unreal Engine 5.6, offers a stunning look into a fantasy world filled with monsters, ruins, and even featured a horse that was a faithful companion in the third edition of the Witcher game.

The focus is no longer on Geralt, but on Ciri, who explores the forested landscapes and a marketplace called Valdrest.

In addition to the spectacular visual presentation, Epic emphasized that the demo was also designed to showcase Unreal Engine 5.6's capabilities in handling dense vegetation and vibrant urban scenes in an open world. Special attention was paid to the advancements in horse animation. Comparison with horses from The Witcher 3 it is obvious and exciting.

The presentation also featured a live gameplay demonstration running on a base PlayStation 5 console at 60 frames per second, with ray tracing enabled.
This means that Unreal Engine 5.6 not only promises exceptional visual effects, but also high performance on standard hardware.

Ciri was seen riding a horse, exploring detailed landscapes with realistic light, shadows, and wind in the treetops. You can watch part of the demo on the official streaming page of the event, where a segment dedicated to the Witcher is right at the beginning of the presentation.

CD Projekt Red revealed back in 2022 that it would develop its next game in The Witcher franchise in collaboration with Epic Games on Unreal Engine 5, partly due to the technical issues that marked the game's release. Cyberpunk 2077.

In 2023, the developers officially announced The Witcher 4, starring Ciri, and released a short cinematic trailer that immediately garnered a lot of attention. The game's release date is still unknown.

With version 5.6 now available to all developers, Epic continues its journey of setting technological standards in the gaming industry. The Witcher demo is not just a visual treat, but also an example of how game creators can rely on the power and tools of the Unreal Engine to create large, open, dynamic worlds.
