Ubuntu Touch is here again!

Ubuntu Touch is a mobile operating system designed for smartphones, tablets, and other touch-screen devices. It was initially developed by Canonical, known for its desktop version of Ubuntu, but the project was abandoned years ago. It has since been developed by the UBports community.

Big upgrades are coming slowly but surely. The latest version of Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.0 is now officially available.

This is the first major release based on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, which has been available for desktops for a year and a half. Visually, the system is not significantly different from the previous version, 20.04 LTS. However, the kernel has been updated to the latest stable version.

The most notable innovations include:
– New Ubuntu Touch logo (first change in eight years)
– Light and dark shell mode (System Settings > Wallpaper & Appearance)
– Experimental encryption of personal data
– Updated phone app with better support for larger screens
– New USB settings: charging, file transfer, internet sharing

Ubuntu Touch works on a wide range of devices, especially Android devices such as the Google Pixel 3a, OnePlus, Fairphone, Xiaomi and Volla. They recently added support for the Fairphone 5 and Rabbit R1 (estimated at €190).
