Valve wants SteamOS on other devices

The creator of SteamOS has confirmed that Valve is working on versions of the software for competing handhelds like the ROG Ally.

The Steam Deck was a huge hit among gamers and despite its now slightly older hardware, it remains a great choice in its category. The mid-term refresh with an OLED screen was also a good decision. Much of this success is due to SteamOS, which is based on Linux and runs games more efficiently than Windows.

Other competitors, ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion, MSI Claw... use Windows. However, there are already projects that can be used to load SteamOS onto competing devices. One of these is HoloISO, but installation is not exactly easy, so many people will not even try it or even hear about this option.

So it's a good thing that Valve has decided to adapt its system for other devices. How did this discovery come about? The Verge noticed a new note in the notes for the latest SteamOS update for support for the ROG Ally keyboard. The company was contacted, and Lawrence Yang, the system's designer, confirmed that Valve is working on bringing its system to other devices.

The official release is still a long way off and may be a double-edged sword for Valve. On the one hand, they will expand their system, and on the other, they will give users the opportunity to choose another SteamOS device with more powerful hardware. So, a drop in Steam Deck PC sales. In all likelihood, they don't even mind because they make most of their money from selling games, not handhelds.
