Xiaomi has launched the 17 series of smartphones, which immediately sparked comparisons to Apple. Critics are calling it a rip-off, while fans believe Xiaomi is competing with Apple. The jump from the 15 series to the 17 series was intended to match Apple's iPhone 17 line of smartphones.

The hardware, however, is quite unique. The Pro and Pro Max models have a secondary display on the back, built around the camera, that allows you to frame selfies, control music, widgets, and more. The Pro Max even supports a retro Game Boy-style case with working buttons.

Both models are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and feature a triple 50MP camera, with the Pro Max offering a larger sensor and faster aperture for better low-light performance. The Pro has a 6.3-inch display and a 6,300mAh battery, while the Pro Max offers a 6.9-inch display and a massive 7,500mAh battery.

The standard Xiaomi 17 has the same chip and cameras, but without the rear screen. Surprisingly, it has a larger battery than the Pro, with a capacity of 7,000mAh. Xiaomi used this to compare it to the iPhone 17 in a video playback test.

All three models support 100W wired and 50W wireless charging and run on Android 16 with HyperOS 3. Pre-orders are already open in China, with prices starting at €590 (US$690) for the 17 model, €650 (US$790) for the Pro, and €780 (US$890) for the Pro Max. A European launch is planned for spring 2026.
