Xiaomi is switching to HyperOS 3: Android 16 testing is expected to start in August!
According to online rumors, Xiaomi recently stopped developing its HyperOS 2 mobile operating system and shifted its focus to the next major version of the system. This means that there will probably be no more major updates based on Android 15 for existing devices. The company is expected to start testing the new Android 16 in August 2025.
The news was revealed by reliable Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo. According to him, Xiaomi is not the only manufacturer to start beta testing, as several companies around the world are expected to launch their Android 16 betas around the same time.
Although Xiaomi has not officially unveiled HyperOS 3 yet, rumors predict a revamped and more intuitive user interface. In addition, Android 16 is expected to bring smoother animations. All of this will bring greater responsiveness to the entire system. As with major system upgrades, HyperOS 3 is also likely to improve resource and memory management, contributing to faster and more stable operation.
Xiaomi has not yet announced an official list of devices that will receive the new HyperOS 3. However, it is expected that newer models, such as the Xiaomi 15, will be mostly supported. It is not known which models will be among the first to be included in the pilot testing, but Xiaomi could announce the list soon.
