ChatGPT Agent reaches a new step in automating everyday tasks

ChatGPT Agent is OpenAI's latest technology that enables autonomous execution of complex, multi-step tasks using artificial intelligence. The agent is capable of taking on many tasks typically performed by humans, such as organizing meetings, making restaurant reservations, purchasing products, and even creating extensive research reports.

The agent runs on a virtual machine, meaning it has access to the user's entire computer, not just their web browser, calendars, and email accounts. OpenAI claims that ChatGPT Agent combines the capabilities of two of its existing tools: Operator and Deep Research.

How does ChatGPT Agent improve productivity?

Users who have had the opportunity to test ChatGPT Agent report significant simplification of daily tasks. For example, an employee at OpenAI used the tool to automate parking reservations at their San Francisco office, saving time and reducing the possibility of human error.

In a test demo for The Verge, the agent was able to easily arrange a date by first checking the user’s calendar, then finding a suitable restaurant and making a reservation. The agent is also able to create research reports on specific topics and generate presentations based on competitor analysis, significantly reducing the time needed to search for information and prepare materials.

Limitations and safety issues

While the tool is incredibly powerful, OpenAI emphasizes that they have implemented a number of security measures to prevent the agent from performing any irreversible actions without the user's explicit permission. A special security setting called “Watch Mode” prevents the agent from performing certain sensitive tasks, such as financial transactions.

The company also emphasizes that they have further strengthened security measures due to the tool's increased capabilities, especially in the areas of biological and chemical security, although there is currently no evidence that the tool could assist in harmful activities.

The Future of ChatGPT Agent

OpenAI plans to continue developing ChatGPT Agent and introduce new features that will enable even greater versatility. The tool is currently available to Pro, Plus, and Team users, and will be available to ChatGPT Enterprise and Education users later this summer.

Analysts estimate that ChatGPT Agent will have a significant impact on future development trends in the field of artificial intelligence, where similar technologies are expected to become a daily tool for millions of users around the world.

Competition also follows

The trend of AI as a personal assistant is not limited to OpenAI. Other tech giants such as Amazon, Meta, Google, and fintech company Klarna are also actively developing their own versions of AI agents. For example, in February 2024, Klarna revealed that its AI agent handled two-thirds of its customer chats in one month, the equivalent of 700 full-time employees.
