OpenAI is bringing back the 4o model after user complaints

OpenAI has launched its latest GPT-5 model, but it hasn't met with the expected positive response from users. Users miss previous versions, leading to a surprising change in strategy.
OpenAI is bringing back the 4o model after user complaints

OpenAI recently unveiled its highly anticipated GPT-5 model. While user expectations were high, the removal of access to older models caused considerable disappointment among long-time users who had already developed specific uses for GPT-4o and others.

Quite a few users expressed dissatisfaction, especially with the lack of personality in the new version. One user even compared his experience to “being like GPT-5 was wearing the skin of his deceased friend,” expressing a strong emotional connection to the previous version.

OpenAI responds to criticism

Due to the negative user response, OpenAI quickly took action and re-enabled GPT-4o, at least for ChatGPT Plus subscribers, who pay about $20 per month. CEO Sam Altman admitted that the company underestimated the importance of GPT-4o's specific features, despite the fact that GPT-5 is generally considered to be better.

Altman revealed during Reddit's "Ask Me Anything" event that OpenAI is open to making adjustments and further improvements to meet user requests and needs. The company has also made the older GPT-4.5 model available, further demonstrating its willingness to listen to its users.

ChatGPT currently has nearly 700 million weekly active users, demonstrating its immense popularity. Despite all the difficulties, OpenAI continues to work on additional improvements, including the introduction of new features such as AI agents that can independently use computer programs and applications.

We can see that OpenAI actively listens to feedback from its users and responds quickly to their needs, allowing the company to continue to remain at the forefront of AI development.
