The latest Claude Haiku 5.5, officially launched as the successor to Haiku 4.5, brings a number of new features for both users and developers. Available to users in web and mobile apps for iOS and Android, it sits below the more powerful Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5 models. Free users now have two modern models available, as the Sonnet model has joined them earlier, while the most powerful Opus remains available exclusively in the paid package.

The company directly compared the newcomer to OpenAI's GPT-6 Luna model, which is also available to free ChatGPT users. According to the data, Haiku 5.5 achieves significantly better results in all comparable tests, including the OSWorld 2.1 computer management test and the Terminal-Bench 4.0 programming test. Despite the impressive numbers, these are only internal measurements of the company for now, as independent tests are not yet available. In addition, some early tests also showed quick, but sometimes incorrect answers to simple questions.

The biggest change for developers is significantly cheaper access via the API. Entry prices are expected to drop by up to 90 %, with one million input tokens costing around 9 cents for requests up to 100,000 tokens, and one million output tokens costing around 46 cents. The average savings are expected to be around 75 %.
