Google Photos is coming to TVs

Google Photos is coming to TVs

Saving and viewing photos in the cloud are moving to the big screen. Google Photos will officially be available on TVs for the first time next year, with Samsung pioneering the new integration. The company announced that Google Photos will be tightly integrated into its TV ecosystem, allowing you to view photos in a larger, cinematic format.

Interestingly, Google Photos currently doesn't have a dedicated app for TVs - not even on Google's own Google TV system. Samsung doesn't mention a classic TV app in its announcement, but rather talks about system integration that will be "deeply woven" into the user experience of its TVs.

The first step will be Memories, which will display curated collections of photos and videos on Tizen OS TVs. This part of the integration is expected to be available in March 2026 and will be exclusive to Samsung TVs for the first six months. It is primarily intended for the automatic slideshows of memories that users are already familiar with from the mobile version of Google Photos.

The second half of 2026 will see an expansion of functionality. Google Photos search and tools based on generative artificial intelligence are coming to TVs. The “Create with AI” feature will offer thematic suggestions built on Google’s Nano Banana technology, while AI-based image creation and editing tools will also be available, including Remix and Photo to Video. A special “Personalized Results” option will allow automatic presentations of photos based on content or theme – for example, “seaside”, “hiking” or “Paris”.

Samsung emphasizes that setup will be simple. Users will simply need to sign in to their Google account on the TV, and photos stored in Google Photos will automatically appear on the screen. The goal is to create a seamless transition between phone and TV, without any extra steps or complicated settings.

While Samsung will be the first to offer this integration, it's likely that the features will be rolled out to other TVs after the six-month exclusivity period. Google Photos on the big screen heralds a new chapter for home galleries - one that focuses on artificial intelligence, personalization, and minimal friction between devices.
