Known piracy group that bypassed protection in over 60 games dismantled

The battle between Irdeto and pirates has taken a new turn. The DenuvOwO group, known for exploiting the hypervisor bypass method and bypassing protection in over 60 games, has decided to disband. The main reason for this decision is a recent lawsuit filed by Irdeto in the Northern California District Court against a well-known hacker nicknamed voices38. The lawsuit does not focus on copyright infringement, but on the provisions of the US DMCA regarding the circumvention of security measures.

The user with the nickname voices38 remains unknown, so the company is trying to uncover his identity by subpoenaing the platforms Discord and Reddit. Despite the lawsuit, this individual has promised to continue developing pirated versions. However, the DenuvOwO group does not want to take any chances. On Reddit, a member of the group confirmed the breakup and admitted that it was this legal process that triggered fears of their identity being revealed.

The hypervisor bypass method required tweaking Windows security settings, but it was the easiest to use. Although the group did not create the technology themselves and relied on open source projects, it was extremely popular. Apparently, the group has already found a successor, nicknamed “Artifact.”
