Google's app for virtual clothes fitting

Google's app for virtual clothes fitting

Google Labs has launched Doppl, a new experimental AI-powered app that lets users try on clothes virtually. Users can upload a photo of themselves and any outfit to see how it would fit them, and they can also create an AI video that brings the clothes to life in motion.

Users must first upload a full-screen photo of their body, then select images or screenshots of clothing. For example: you can save photos from Pinterest, online clothing stores, or directly take photos of clothes at a second-hand clothing store. You can even take a photo of a friend wearing an outfit you like.

Once you select an outfit, Doppl (an acronym that refers to the word doppelgänger) will create an AI-generated image of you wearing the outfit, then turn the static image into a video of you and the outfit moving. You can easily continue to explore different combinations, save your favorite looks, and share them. Google warns that “Doppl is still in its early stages of development, so the fit, appearance, and details of the outfits may not always be completely accurate.”

Google recently introduced a similar virtual try-on feature within its shopping platform, but Doppl works as a standalone app. It seems like something users could have fun with, especially on social media, while also helping Google collect data about users' shopping habits. The app is currently available for iOS and Android, but only in the US.
