False warning about end of support for Windows 10
Windows 10 support officially ended on October 14, 2025, with the last security update, KB5066791. Although the operating system will no longer receive security patches, Microsoft has assured that Defender will continue to provide basic protection.
Users who have installed all available cumulative updates are now seeing a message on the Windows Update settings page: "Your version of Windows is no longer supported." However, Microsoft warns that this message is also displayed on some versions of Windows 10 that are still supported. It is an incorrect message that appears on the following editions:
– Windows 10 version 22H2 Pro, Education or Enterprise with a valid ESU key
– Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021
– Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021
Microsoft has already released a patch via cloud configuration. To receive the patch, the system must be connected to the Internet, have OneSettings CSP enabled, have firewall access, and have dynamic updates enabled.
A workaround involves using Group Policy to enable Known Issue Rollback (KIR). IT administrators can download the file for versions 21H2 and 22H2 and set the value "KB5066791 251020_20401 Known Issue Rollback" to "Disabled". A system restart is required after this.
More information is available on the official Microsoft Windows Health dashboard page.
