GTA VI release postponed to November 2026
Rockstar Games has officially confirmed that the release of the most anticipated game of the last decade, GTA VI, has been postponed again. The new release date is November 19, 2026. The news was also confirmed by publisher Take-Two as part of its second-quarter financial report.
The reason for the delay? Additional time is needed for the developer to "complete the game with the level of quality that fans expect and deserve." The publisher emphasized that Rockstar has their full support in this and that they believe in the success of the game, which everyone expects to break all sales records.
GTA VI was originally announced for the fall of 2025, which Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick confidently confirmed as an achievable goal last year. But then the release first slipped to May 2026, and now the new official premiere is set for the end of 2026. Time for additional optimization is always the reason given by developers when it is necessary to postpone the release. At least officially. But there can be many things hidden behind it. There are also rumors about GTA VI that there could be deeper problems with the integration of all the ambitious technologies. And the desire for the multiplayer mode to be a big hit on day one, since GTA Online brings in the largest part of the income.
Most fans are used to waiting and admit that the extra time often pays off in the form of a more polished game. However, there is still disappointment among gamers who have been eagerly awaiting the game for decades.
The company has also been rocked by a personnel crisis. Last week, Take-Two fired dozens of employees, officially for “serious violations of rules” and the alleged disclosure of “confidential information to the public.” But those fired claim they were punished for participating in union organizing talks.
Along with all of this, Take-Two also announced its record second quarter. Total sales revenue (reached $1.96 billion, the highest ever.
