Apple introduces iPhone Air – the thinnest and lightest iPhone ever

Apple introduces iPhone Air – the thinnest and lightest iPhone ever

Apple has unveiled the all-new iPhone Air in Cupertino, the thinnest and lightest iPhone yet. At just 5.6mm thin and with a titanium construction, it sets new standards in smartphone design. Has it sacrificed performance for thinness?

Groundbreaking titanium design

iPhone Air uses a Grade 5 titanium frame with a polished finish and a precision-machined back construction that makes more room for the battery and cameras. On the front, there’s a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion technology (up to 120Hz) and 3,000 nits of brightness, the highest ever on an iPhone and the same as the more expensive iPhone 17. The display has thinner bezels and outdoor contrast is twice as good as previous models.

For protection, Ceramic Shield 2 now covers the back of the phone for the first time. The new coating delivers 3x better scratch resistance and significantly reduced reflections. Compared to previous models, iPhone Air has 4x better shatter resistance on the back glass, making it the most durable iPhone ever.

Despite its slim design, the iPhone Air is equipped with an action button that provides quick access to features such as the camera, shortcuts, or smart settings.

Powerful trio of chips: A19 Pro, N1 and C1X

Performance and energy efficiency are provided by three Apple chips:

  • A19 Pro with a 6-core CPU and 5-core GPU, enabling AAA mobile gaming, on-device generative AI, and 3x more graphics processing power than before.
  • The N1 brings support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread.
  • C1X, Apple's new modem, is 2x faster than its predecessor and uses up to 30% less power, making it the most efficient modem in iPhone.

Together, they enable iPhone Air to achieve all-day battery life despite its thin design, or up to 27 hours of video playback, or up to 40 hours when combined with an optional MagSafe battery.

New generation cameras

The iPhone Air features a versatile 48MP Fusion main sensor that combines multiple focal lengths (28mm and 35mm) to capture quality images even in low light. There's also a 2x telephoto lens that's said to be optically equivalent.

On the front, there's an 18MP Center Stage camera with the first square sensor on an iPhone. It allows for a wider angle of view and captures in portrait or landscape orientation without rotating the device. Dual Capture lets you record with the front and rear cameras simultaneously, making it ideal for content creators.

Portraits are taken care of with advanced depth analysis and new photo styles, including Bright, which enhances natural skin tones and adds vibrancy to shots. Videographers will appreciate 4K60 HDR Dolby Vision recording, support for Action Mode, surround sound, and wind noise reduction.

Only eSIM and iOS 26

To save space, the iPhone Air uses an eSIM exclusively.

It runs the new iOS 26, which introduces a redesigned Liquid Glass design, smarter Apple Intelligence with live translation, and advanced security features like spam and message filters.

Price and availability

The iPhone Air will be available in black, white, gold, and blue. It will be available in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB capacities.

  • Starting price: approximately €919 (256 GB).
  • Pre-orders begin on September 12th, with availability starting on September 19th, 2025.
